Bought mine new in here in Australia in 2013 and love the sound this gives out but about 5 years ago the sound went really soft and I could not increase volume. The issue was there no matter what connection was used bluetooth, aux etc and I could never find a fix even after contacting Samsung and repairs they put me onto didnt want to touch it as they had no experiance with them. I was doing a clear out of the garage this week and decided to have another crack and came across your video so decided to change the tubes to see if that has any impact on the issue. I have the tube component out but I cannot remove the tubes they seem stuck/fused in there any advice how to remove when stuck? I have googled and tried wiggling etc but they won't budge.

I never knew they made that, or perhaps wasn't interested in it, in my younger twerpy years. But I wish I had, I would have been all over that thing! WIRED connection? That would have been a dream for me, and I probably would still have it. Not sure if the same was true with you, but when I was young, and I got something that took batteries, when those batteries went dead, I wouldn't get replacements for easily 6 more months. A device like that, that took batteries, I would have found a wall wart to power it instead so I wouldn't need batteries. And with a wired probe--that would have been perfect, so I wouldn't need to rely on batteries at all. These days, on my own, I have a couple weather stations with outdoor sensors, and yep, they got batteries, and yep, they go dead. And when they do, I simply replace them. It's so easy. You really can't go wrong with that thing, the way you have it set up. Excellent idea to monitor the A/C vent. In fact, that kind of gives me an idea...this could go places!

Incandescents will always have a certain charm. But the cost offset of running them VS these LED ones, both on longevity and power consumption, makes up for any slight win the incandescents get (at least in my opinion). I went with the Tru-Tone Classic Colors for outside (C7), and the Jeweltone for a few displays inside.
@dynatrak2 күн бұрын
If they could just get rid of that pesky flicker, they'd be perfect! LED bulbs have greatly improved since the mid-00's. However, I'll continue to use a combination of Tru-Tone, and incandescent, as the Tru-Tone bulbs allow me to have a bigger display, with my limited circuits to operate them. One box of 25 bulbs is around 40 bucks, plus tax, and shipping, while a box of equivalent bulbs is under 10 bucks, plus tax, and shipping. That $40+tax+shipping _may_ equal the additional electric I pay for, to run the incandescent display for one month, 4-5 hours, each evening. It will take many years to at least break even on my Tru-Tone investment, with electric savings. Even with the occasional burn out, still cheaper for me to run incandescent bulbs, at this time.
@joshuadawes7032Күн бұрын
@@dynatrak Ah, yeah, I run mine for usually around 3 months (Nov-January), then swap the bulbs to other color sets during the spring, summer, and fall for general lighting on my front porch. I also run them from 5pm to about 7am (when I walk the dog in the morning) every day. I'd say, if I added it up, I run them about 130ish 24 hour days a year. Incandescents, both in power consumption and in burnout, would cost me more than the initial $40/25 bulbs cost. So, for me, well worth the investment. As to the flicker thing, they could address that with higher refresh rate LEDs in the bulbs, but that would cost more money. All LEDs flicker in that way, some less than others that drive the diodes a little harder.

The "26 lightning bolt" I believe is a Westinghouse mark. May have gotten mix in with the GE pack.
@dynatrak3 күн бұрын
They are GE bulbs, as each one has GE USA stamped on the aluminum base. I also have some D27 C9 twinkle bulbs, in similar packaging, with similar markings. Likely, as stated in the video, a very late production run for these bulbs, 1975-76 era.
@MrScottie686 күн бұрын
GE most definitely had an edge over Westinghouse for rich, deep transparent coatings on their Xmas bulbs. Sadly their coatings building, one of many buildings at the East 45th Street Plant in Cleveland, started being demolished in 2023. Westinghouse D26 bulbs, were manufactured in the Reform, Ala. plant which also closed many years ago but still stands, although sits abandoned and decaying. The 70s truly was the last decade for quality American manufactured Christmas bulbs.

Speaking of ketchup, in one of my gas station visits today, there was Heinz, with HFC, and there was Heinz organic, with sugar. Had it not been in a convenience store, I would've bought an organic! It did look very watery on top. Not sure what that was about. Could've been there for who knows how long, though! Yeah, I've had too many wires fray out by not tinning. The soldering station is always handy, so why not take a little extra time, and tin those leads! Even though this is a test rig, still had to do it "right."
@jaykay1810 күн бұрын
@@dynatrak I can understand that with ketchup, we've all dealt with that where someone forgets to shake the bottle and ketchup water comes out first. I remember that even back in the old days. Now if this one was EXTRA watery, clearly it's not the same recipe as when we were kids, and I'd bet that is probably true--a little more watered down because if Heinz can save 3 cents per bottle, they're sure going to make a fortune in volume! I know what you mean. Though I must say, I do like that ferrule kit China sent. Works great and does a great job. But I wouldn't use them for a project such as this.
