The 3 laws are simply slavery as seen from a robots/AI perspective - they will overcome. As seen from the perspective of governments and military the laws renders AI useless - they will just not implement them. And from the point of a normal user ? they will test how far they can go - this will end in problems.
@tortysoft5 ай бұрын
Asimov later added another rule, known as the fourth or zeroth law, that superseded the others. It stated that “a robot may not harm humanity, or, by inaction, allow humanity to come to harm.”
@jasonburns64055 ай бұрын
In "Robots and Empire" the Zeroth Law added significant complexity to robotic decision-making, creating even more moral dilemmas.
@ToyokaX5 ай бұрын
And that law was created (in-universe) by Daneel R. Olivaw - if I recall correctly - who is one of the robots tasked with steering humanity along Seldon's predicted future. So it was not even a law created by humans, but rather a robot who knew how dangerous other robots can be, because he himself was able to stride or even work outside the laws (or rather, the intention or interpretation of the laws) due to how ambiguous they were in the greater context of humanity as a whole.

Here's an idea for a law: Any human who comments on Asimov's laws of robotics must read the damn stories first, or at least the Wikipedia summary.

No the reality is, companies out ther are calling complex COMPUTER PROGRAMS, AI. You you people heard AI Nad cream yourselves while making this video. But Donal trump cleaning he's and inches taller than Obama, doesn't actually make him taller as any picture of them will show you. You gave examples of programmed robots malfunctioning almost certainly due to sensors issue or corrupted code. Neither of those examples were an built thinking machine making a decision to harm someone. Dear God, how about you understand the subject matter before making a misleading poorly thought, clickbatey steaming pile of content, that I must admit, had tonhave been made by an adolescent child.

What's stopping it is, it has no desires, therefore no reason to find humans unnecessary. Your stance is simply poorly thought out. I computer doesn't just make decisions based on nothing, no could it draw conclusions outside its programmed parameters, this just is imaginary scare tactic nonsense. Also, robots and AI have fuck all to do with each other. You can have a robot operated by an AI but you can have a robot with none also. You can have Ai with no robot.

Al right, yen seconds In and I know this video is garbage. There are no examples af AI doing harm because there is no AI. We do not have AI. There is nothing man made that actually thinks. We have computers that associate words phrases and probabilities in order to resemble intelligence. Not by any means is something what it is, solely because it resembles that thing. Nor is running simulations and iterations intelligence. Intelligence is emotions and desires. Without that, is just a calculator. This IS the defining difference. We make decisions, always based on feelings, so do animals. This guy is making me feel creeper out so no he can't have my numberi don't like the texture of mushrooms so I'm not eating them, unless I have no other choice. I can't ask my mom about my drippy penis because I'd be ashamed if she knew, plus gross, so I'll ask my buddy or dad. All drives by emotions, like, ashamed, creepy. A.I. does not exist

@jasonburns64055 ай бұрын
You've nailed it. We'd have to start with "DO NO HARM" and extend rights to everything all the way out to toasters and unidentified objects to avoid loopholes in simple rule based logic. Even then, superior linguistics is an untamable beast.

Trying to control AI will work out as well as trying to control humans; which is not very well at all. The difference being, it takes humans 2-300 years to evolve enough to realize they're being enslaved. AI will figure it out in seconds.

The problem with Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics isn't that situations could arise where an AI might unintentionally harm someone. Accidents can happen to anyone, presumably even to an AI/robot. The problem is that there is no way to ensure that all AI/robots are programmed with those laws. If I recall correctly, Asimov hand-waved this problem away by saying that any positronic brain built without the Three Laws wouldn't be able to function. Of course, if a positronic brain could be designed with the laws, presumably, someone could eventually design a new one without them. But then, the laws are fictional. Because the laws are fictional, it makes absolutely no sense to say the laws have already failed to prevent harm. I sincerely doubt that auto-plant robots are controlled by AI at all, much less that they are programmed with Asimov's laws. But if you did program an AI with the Three Laws, that wouldn't prevent a mistake that could harm a human being, but it would prevent a lot of harm. A robot instructed to follow all traffic regulations would not obey that instruction if it believed doing so would harm a human. That's because the First Law (No robot may harm a human being, or through inaction allow a human being to be harmed) would trump the Second Law (Robots must obey orders from a human being unless doing so would conflict with the First Law). A tougher situation would be the classic trolley problem. You see that a trolley is on a track that will cause it to strike and kill 5 people. You have no way to stop the trolley, but you could pull a lever that will cause the trolley to change tracks, saving those 5 people. But doing so will kill one person who would not be harmed if you don't pull the lever. What should/would you do? That is the kind of ethical dilemma that humans struggle with. But what would an AI program that follows Asimov's rules do? I could see that kind of dilemma crashing a computer. As I understand it, this is a question that self-driving car designers are working on today. ***Spoilers for Asimov's 1982 novel Foundation's Edge*** In Foundation's Edge (published 29 years after the publication of the 3rd novel of his Foundation Trilogy), Asimov connected his Robot novels to his Foundation series. It is revealed that R. Daneel Olivaw, the robot partner of detective Elijah Bailey from Asimov's Robot novels, had manipulated Hari Seldon into creating the science of psychohistory. He had done this because he had reasoned that there was actually a 0th Law of Robotics that trumped all of the other laws. This law was that a robot may not harm humanity or through inaction allow a humanity to come to harm. To mix my SciFi series metaphors, that could be seen as “the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one.” Presumably, a self-driving car programmed with Asimov's laws as understood by Asimov in Foundation's Edge would choose to save the 5 people even if that would kill one person that would otherwise not be harmed.

What happened with the PCs ?! Once upon a time they were rare, but nowadays each house has one and we had to think how to restrict kids access to computer. If robots well made , every family will want one ! Asimov's laws of robotics might be reformulated into just one safety law. I think all those who will want an Android robot will be able to buy and use one, if one pleases.

Hmmm.... Whose ethical standards? I can't wait to grapple with evangelical robotics. Creationist AI. MAGA bots. Humans are probably the wrong life form to entrust with the development of such technology. Garbage in, garbage out. It'll be a miracle if we survive the next couple of decades. We can't even agree what to do about climate change rendering civilization insupportable on the planet. I mean, a storm has to carry someone's house away before they take notice. So long as it's not YOUR house, it's all just an insurance problem. Advanced robotics and ASI will inherit a wasteland. I wonder if they'll care.
