Excellent vid! Actually it is my main goal lately to improve my coding skills, travel abroad maybe to Austria and learn computer science and then maybe a further IT specialization. I'm delighted to see in your portfolio that you are from Austria. Don't you mind if I contact you just for a few couple of questions in discord or in email? BTW really clean content and channel, keep up the good work 😄

omfg the snippet of code shown is what year? 2004? shall we take a look at some random js code and take conclusions? Besides, who has any legitimacy to bash a language for being hard to read when modern """"standards """" require you to do EVERYTHING in the template file? jsx + tailwind. You could have picked a most modern approach with PHP, and probably arrived to the same conclusion cuz it seems that you started your video right from there: the conclusion. and then wrote the script backwards.
@code404-notfound18 күн бұрын
1:48 python (1991) is older than php (1995). So none of them are modern in the traditional sense

Im currently at highschool (we have programming and database classes) and I have been learning PHP for the past 2 years. Having said that, my code (aside from my first web) isn't hard to read at all for people that have seen it, of course my webs aren't rocket science just simples CRUD's with extra functions like filters, responsive user interface, basic feedback and stuff like that. The code that was shown in the video was just a lazy and overcomplicated way of user verification plus the things that should show afterwards like; Users table, specific user data, etc. (most probably made with ChatGPT because of the structure of the code <-- im saying this based on a hunch, it may be bs from my part) Anyway, nice video and sorry for the rant😅

The video you posted seems to send a rather negative message to the programming community, especially to those who are just starting their journey in the field. Criticizing a programming language so heavily and discouraging others from learning it is not only impolite but also unhelpful. It’s important to recognize that PHP, Python, and JavaScript are all dynamic, interpreted languages, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. All of them are prone to errors, bugs, and vulnerabilities if not written properly. While I understand that you may have a preference for certain languages, such as Python and JavaScript, the arguments presented in your video appear overly dismissive of PHP and seem to reflect a bias toward languages you are more familiar with. Promoting a single language as the "best" without appreciating the value of others can be misleading and counterproductive. As a professional in the software development field, it's crucial to acknowledge that no language is inherently "bad" or undeserving of attention. Instead of discouraging people from learning a specific language, we should be encouraging them to explore and choose the right tool for the task at hand. As Dennis Ritchie wisely said, “A language that doesn’t have everything is actually easier to program in than some that do.” The most intelligent programmers are those who understand that each language has its unique benefits depending on the use case. For instance, PHP remains one of the most popular languages for web development, just as C/C++ and Assembly are commonly used for embedded systems. Python excels in areas like IoT, robotics, data science, and machine learning, while JavaScript is a core technology for dynamic, interactive web interfaces. Java and C# continue to dominate in enterprise software, with Java also being widely used for Android apps, and C# in game development. It's important for those of us in the field to respect the diversity of languages and their applications, as there is no single “best” language for all situations. I would encourage you to reconsider the approach of discouraging others from exploring certain languages. Everyone has different preferences, and it’s through diversity in knowledge and experience that we grow as developers. In conclusion, I believe that fostering an inclusive attitude toward all programming languages would benefit the community far more than promoting division. I hope this message helps you reconsider the tone of your content moving forward. :)

If you follow an MVC framework, it can be much easier to track things down. Models being the DB interface and some security, Controllers being the director of requests, and views containing all HTML and CSS so it stays cleaner. Also following the PHP Standards Recommendations make it much more practical and functional.

So, why do you hate it, exactly? Because from the comments here, it looks like not everyone is on the 'PHP hate train.' I mean, I haven’t touched PHP in years, yet somehow I’m still excited about its update. Compared to the usual JS/TS or Python BS, PHP is still rocking the backend game. Guess not everyone can handle that energy, huh?

PHP is a complicated case, because of its history. For a while, it was as bad as perl etc. The focus of the language has shifted a lot, and nowadays, it might be one of the best scripting languages. These days, it offers a lot of features to make your code more maintainable, such as interfaces, runtime type checking etc. A lot of other languages are missing these. Also, these days, no one uses PHP as a web framework. Like you'd never use pure python without any libraries to write a web site, you'd use something like Symfony, Laravel or Nette to write your application. And these frameworks are amazing, as they are developed on enterprise-level standards: No breaking changes, easy upgrades, great documentation, testing, types. In general, PHP became a very enterprise-level product, in terms of stability, performance etc. It outperforms Python and I think also Node.js. The only downside is its history, which is still not completely tidied up: You still have some footguns available, and things are named inconsistently because of the different "eras" of PHP. The introduction of what they call "Traits" has been a huge mistake and is such a footgun.

I work with PHP, i love the language. The mix of PHP and HTML got me confusing So what did i do? I used PHP to, make a framework that suited me and my development process. PHP being almost base level, meaning i was able to fix almost any issues i faced but just coding it... i packaged it and i have my very own, personalized; Component Based Modular Dynamically Routable Framework.

If you write a big pile of mixed HTML and PHP like that, it's obvious you're not a PHP programmer. Seriously, no one even remotely competent does that anymore, and hasn't for 20 years. You may as well write a C++ program using 100% global variables and then whine that C++ has poor state management. It would be about as meaningful and accurate of a statement.

The biggest problem PHP ever had is that it's too easy to get started with it. That made a lot of wide spread open source code bases, frankly, shit. Wordpress, I'm looking at you. However, actually working with it full-time, and having tried to use Python, JS/TS and even Rust, I've gotta say that PHP is the perfect blend between simplicity and power. It does not protect you from writing bad looking code, but it gives you the power to build really powerful web apps if you know what your doing. I think the hate of PHP really comes from the fact that it runs differently than Node or Java apps do. Is it better? Depends. But you do need to think about the app in a different way when using php.

PHP is probably the only thing you know and you probably never used anything else. PHP is about the only language without async/await, about the only language is only useful for the web. Can you even use WebSocket and Server-Sent Events (SSE) in PHP? Background processing? Making HTTP requests in PHP using CURL is a nightmare. Deserialization of JSON cannot be deserialized into classes. Can't generate UUID without relying on third-party libraries.
