@@RoyHoy I was apart of the unlucky many who dropped like $20 on it when you had to pay to play it. It grew really boring pretty quickly, and that's coming from someone who's really into VR shooters. This is just my opinion ofc, but I still don't get the appeal when you've got way better shooters/battle royales out there to try (VAIL, Contractors Showdown, even Rec Royale is better lmfao)

@@wrongteous I also paid for this game when it first came out. I don't regret buying it. I had some funny and intense moments playing this game. And let's be honest, Rec Royale isn't better than Population One.

So instead of a pair of controllers fitted for my hands I’m gonna need a tennis racket, a golf club, a gun, a broad sword etc. What could go wrong?
@Uploadvr
@Uploadvr 14 сағат бұрын
One stick-like passive object (doesn't need charged) could act as a tennis racket, golf club, and a bat. And keep in mind for the sword you only need the handle, not an entire actual sword.

I sometimes use the Oculus Go for games in PCVR that require a gamepad, like subnautica VR. It works well and since the headset is light, I can use it (while charging it)...

It's wild to me to think hand tracking could be used for 50% of VR time by the end of 2025. Hand tracking is neither good enough nor supported enough for that.

You dont need good lighting for good tracking. Use your old Base stations as they flood the room with IR so light is not needed moreover tracking in general on Q3 is noticeably better when using base stations.

Gestures: Ed Zitron's conflicted AVP review was the only one I saw point out that it detects pinches randomly while typing on a keyboard, leading to unwanted commands and window movements. While there are always edge cases, it seems like a trivial and obvious measure for anyone who's ever used a computer to put a hysteresis after any keypress and prevent that. "Screenheads" and light up speed: The time-to-light on an OLED/uOLED isn't an interesting spec, it's somewhere in the microseconds, i.e. plenty fast. The reason for the interest in greater brightness is exactly what David spelled out: It doesn't matter how fast you can get to full brightness if you then have to stay at that full brightness for a long time to deliver enough light. You smear out the world and, in HMDs, make people sick. AVP: People like acronyms, deal with it. They don't like typing two words a dozen times when they could do two or three letters instead. "VP" collides hard with the extremely common "Vice President", so the A is added to disambiguate, not because there's some rule that the company name must always be included. Alien Versus Predator was a little B-list piece of pop culture twenty years ago, and somehow the Internet's gone to the effort of usually styling it AvP anyway. Q2, QP, Q3, Q3L, only collide with fiscal quarters which are obviously out of context, and I see them in discussion all the time.

A Quest Pro 2 could already exist. Just put the exact specs of the Quest 3 in the current form factor of the Quest Pro with it's eye-tracking, and I'll be happy. But actually actively develop OS navigation using the eye-tracking just like apple. That's all that's missing honestly. I think what we currently have between Quest Pro 1 and Quest 3 is already sufficietn for a 2025 release. Happy to wait for 2027 for any "advancements" but also willing to pay the original $1.5k asking price for a Qpro 2 that's a combination of QPro and Quest 3 with actual eye-tracking features.

As an iPhone user my App Store memories are a little different. I remember being overwhelmed by the volume of pointless, useless apps. Apple stepped in to halt not just “fart” apps but even useful apps like “flashlight and calculator” apps once they overran the store. I think we will always need some type of curator in the App Store to make it a functional experience for shoppers. I guess that’s what makes me an iPhone user.

Don't AAA games on PC already have to compete with inexpensive indie games too? And plenty of AAA games still release on PC and do well -- Sony even started releasing PS games on PC. I think what people really care about is quality content, not a race to the bottom of cost and quality. Vampire Survivors did so well because the game was legit good, not that it was $5. I mean, maybe it helped to start, but the game is worth way more now...

The problem with using gestures to do things like bringing up a system menu is that we're gesturing with our hands for other purposes all the time. People will inevitably accidentally trigger functions because they're talking with their hands during a conversation or even just stretching or curling their fingers idly. It's not like a pinch gesture on a touchscreen because in that case, you are deliberately touching the screen and can control the way you touch it to do what you want during that moment. With hand tracking, your hand movements are continuously being analyzed at all times. So this approach is constantly subject to false triggers. The user is thus required to _avoid_ accidentally making certain gestures at all times, and that's not good. I think we'll ultimately settle on realizing that people need to be able to freely gesture, curl/spread their fingers, whatever without having that trigger off any functions. Something along the lines of tapping buttons on the back of your wrist is a much better approach. But then the next problem you'll run into is that this is prime real-estate everyone will want to use.
