You are correct, you can. I copied that formation from the email that a coach sent me and was not paying attention. A friend of mine sent me a text pointing it out. I thought about correcting it, but decided to wait for one of y'all to spot it. Believe it or not, you are the first (except for my friend). Thank you for being so nice and polite. Send me an email to [email protected] and I will tell you what you won.

Angles are the key. As a defensive guy to get around an angle block, it seems like its twice as many steps to get into position, you have to see it coming or else you're out of position .

Where category would you put Wedge. is this considered an extra or part of the base. I think every team needs a .5 yard play as a requirement. Even if its something like FB DIVE or WEDGE
@CoachChip
@CoachChip 22 күн бұрын
Most teams have a Wedge if, for another reason, the quarterback Sneaks. The ones that do not should. I do not think it belongs in any family of plays. The Wedge is a stand-alone play. As a coach who has majored in GDB, I used the Gap scheme terminology to teach the Wedge. I know Zone coaches who use I/S Zone terminology to teach the Wedge.

So what is the blocking rule for the backside?
@CoachChip
@CoachChip Ай бұрын
The BST does a Gap-Hinge block, unless he pulls to the front side. The BSG usually pulls on GDB with a Kick or a Wrap block. If you have a TE on the backside, he will usually use Gap-Hinge.

@@vhype233 Gap-Down-Backer is the best scheme for blitzing defenses. Every gap is accounted for and blitzing LBs will get caught in the wash of down blocks if they blitz inside gaps. Duo is also good for blitzing teams. Why? Every gap is accounted for.

The "wildcat" is essentially the Single-wing. It is perfect for Youth League and High School football. S.A.B, Wedge, "Solid" Blocking is all you need as Blocking schemes go. Power is your #1 play that sets up everything else. Simple passing game. You get good at 6 core plays and 2 or 3 passes and a special for that week (10 total plays) you can dominate.

We would put them in a bad situation in practice to force them to overcome adversity as a team. We would add to conditioning during the summer when they thought it was over. We would make bad calls in scrimmages to put them behind the sticks. On a crucial 3rd and short (during a scrimmage) we might take out our best RB. We tried putting them in nearly untenable situations as much as possible in practice. It worked in 2017. We woke up the day of the state title game to a snow storm. Later that day we won the state championship playing in the second championship game in the history of the state of Alabama. The first one was played in the game before us. We fell behind 15-0, in the first quarter and came back to win 34-15. Some of the older guys told us later that they now understood why we placed them in bad spots during the summer.

Whats GH & GT?
@CoachChip
@CoachChip 3 ай бұрын
The GH and GT counter are variations of the counter play. They often use misdirection and go against a base play. GH and GT are two similar ways to block the Counter. GH has the backside guard kicking out the DE while the H-Back is wrapping inside of his kick-out block to pick up a linebacker. GT has the backside guard kicking out the DE while the backside tackle is wrapping inside of his kick-out block to pick up a linebacker.
@mcdowork
@mcdowork 3 ай бұрын
Why the tackle instead of guard wrapping? Easier block on backside 4i? Is it to stay consistent with GDB? Why not hinge with BST and wrap guard?
@CoachChip
@CoachChip 3 ай бұрын
Your second question answered your second question. It’s the angle; it gives the BSG a relatively easy turn-out block on the 4i. If the 4i doesn’t want to be reached/dug out by the BST, he will not be dug out.
