One of THE greatest songs ever written. One of the greatest recordings ever recorded. Perhaps THE greatest harmony song ever recorded.

To have seen their time 1961 to 1970 and on and off until Mary’s passing was such a richness to my spirit. Live at Carnegie Hall as a 14 y o 5 feet from the stage. Wow
I was (more or less) introduced to Peter Paul and Mary around 1961-2 as a freshman in high school. I was an office aide and the student with me who was a sophomore walked in one day with their first album (the brick wall background which available and let me look at it. Saw them in concert, enjoying all their songs and still do. My ex was a huge fan and met them in a guitar shop in Chicago.

My folks were very poor when I was a kid. Their music is what I learned to love because it was the only entertainment my sister and I knew, being without TV or Radio. All we had was an old record player and Mama and Daddy's old records. Anyway, the memory makes me so happy, and somewhat proud, to be from such humble beginnings. Folk music reminds me of them and I will cherish those memories for all of my lifetime.

The Original recording of this song was by the Liverpool British Band The Searchers in 1963. It was written by their manager especially for them. It was a big hit in Britain as The Liverpool Mersey Beat sound was sweeping the country. It also became popular in America in April 1964. The Cryn Shames in the U.S. covered it several years later having a minor success with it once again.
