I enjoy these videos, watching the professionals is good, but it's easier to be an armchair coach shouting at these players to move or hit it right because it's a slower game (than the world number 1's). I appreciate the time it takes to get this setup and uploaded. And to the players which allow it.

A few things I notice: 1. Non-racket shoulder is further back (closer to back of court), than racket shoulder Consequence: This means it is difficult to rotate shoulders into the shot, or quickly pull back the racket shoulder Fix: Let the shuttle go further behind you, lead with racket shoulder, pull your racket shoulder in, extend out quickly on hit 2. Your final step with your racket leg looks a little soft - you aren't pushing off it back into court Consequence: You aren't pushing into the ground with your racket leg to put more power/control into the shot Fix: Land then hit almost immediately, push into the ground. Don't stamp/make noise with it, but push when hitting. 3. Your final lunge is narrow Consquence: Instability when hitting Fix: Make the final lunge a little larger for more stability (plus you don't need so many steps) 4.Slightly slow racket prep and turn Consequence: Not as prepared for the shot, potentially more going on/more to go wrong Fix: After your split, pivot and racket up almost immediately. 5. Pulling racket down on follow through Consequence: Can drag shuttle downward, more shots into net Fix: Try and make the follow through a little higher 6. Contact point is low, even when feed is high Consequence: Shuttle more likely to go into net, shot is more defensive and attackable Fix: Take the shuttle a little higher and earlier Overall, hitting action looks good. Looks like you are pronating wrist well, and hitting with racket directly up. Just make sure you are changing grip based on how far back the shuttle goes. i.e. closer to the net is more thumb grip, further back gets more pan handle, directly to side of you would be bevel grip (probably what you are using). Some of the feeds are short and don't really need the full turn, just reach out for it with thumb grip and control it down. Looks mostly good though! Nice smooth swing through, and I am mostly being picky with my points :) Have a look at some top players and see what they do, try and compare your technique.

You play doubles from what I have seen of your videos which in turn you should be learning how to 'Round the head scissor kick' instead of using Backhand. You'll use it alot in doubles, however feedback would be the footwork - directional split step, chassee and then pivot off your non racket leg. Since you're quite tall you don't need to do too many steps just watch your instructor/badminton insight vids too. It also looks like you're lunging into the shot which is fine but you're bending your knee too much, keep your body weight up but slightly bend the knee. Also you're bringing your wrist / angling your wrist down hence why it's hitting the net. Remember the shuttle will only go where the racket is facing , backhands are like whipping a towel, lose grip and then tight but keep the racket facing up especially for clears. If you don't bend the knee so much and keep the racket up plus work on your footwork you'll improve. I would tho work on the round the head scissor kick if I were you. Good luck mate! P S - try jumping up or into the shuttle instead of leaning back unless you're chasing it of course.

Hey man thanks a lot for the feedback. You are spot on though, the backhand should not be used in this situation. I recently learnt this shot so just getting some practice but normally I would do overhead. I will definitely work on the footwork and also the racket technique, thank you for the advice man!

@AdzBadminton Of course no worries, you have come leaps and bounds since your return and you are fairly decent but I think once you add Jump Smashes and the other technique I mentioned before you'll be even better.

@@bbga_ Thank you so much! Speaking of smashes, I just had a quick question. I have always had this problem where the swing of my smash has never been a "full swing". As in there is no proper back swing to help generate power. It's almost as if I punch the shuttle. I have just posted a new video on the channel. If you go to 0:40 seconds where I'm about to smash and put it in slow motion you will see what I mean. Any feedback would be much appreciated!

@AdzBadminton In short - Anticipate, split step, rotate and smash. Long version - Firstly start reading the game more + include split step movement (which is something you do need to start doing) this will make your movement/timing alot better and also improve your shot quality. Next you will be in a sidewards position, which you do well - one thing I have noticed tho is that you drop your non racket arm...bring it up and as you start to rotate bring it down, this will help with balance and timing. Have a loose grip and hand lower down the grip (longer level means higher contact point) which is extremely useful when you are at the back court. SO the tricky part is the rotation, it should go LEGS-HIPS-TORSO and finally your Shoulders. All done fairly fast and fluid. Another thing I picked up on was when youre striking the shuttle you are still sidewards, you want to be facing forward (into the shuttle) and hitting it about half a metre in front of you which I believe in most cases you are. I understand when you mean 'punching', as you rotate (your torso) keep your elbow back until the final few seconds then bring it through along with your wrist and forearm rotation. It is also to take in and I hope it all made sense and helps you, haha! Bonus tip - Watch your videos back (if you don't already) and analyse the footage. What went well and if you could have played a different shot etc...

No, they were using new shuttles but maybe they were breaking quicker as it was during the colder season. I doubt the shuttles were steamed.
