Very nice to see a father and daughter enjoying the outdoors together. Try bleeding the perch when caught, they taste even better.

When drying your gold, try to get as much water out of pan as possible. the bubbling of the water will actually pop gold out of your pan. Also when figuring price for gold, raw placer is about 80% of current spot price! The videos are looking good! Heavy Pans!!!

I have a question how are you getting enough head pressure from the trash pump to cause suction and what is the brand of the face mask?. I run a 3 inch dredge with a high pressure pump no problem.
@mattesonfamilyfarm676011 ай бұрын
The nozzle order was from H&B mining company. We have a 2 inch pump necked down to 11/2. I've been running the motor at 1/3 throttle and it seem to have plenty of suction. The mask my son ordered off Amazon. I'm not sure of the brand. Hope your getting lots of gold with your 3 inch. After we get a handle on how everything work I'm planning to up grade. Good luck getting Au.

An oval-shaped mold would be better for aluminum. It's hard to get aluminum in corners. Then just pour it faster so the metal doesn't start "freezing" until it's full. And don't worry about the other comment about face shields, heating tools, etc. You never claimed to be an educational/teaching channel. You're an entertainment channel. Some people just get their panties in a wad unnecessarily. Great effort and cool signs!

That’s a start, from trash to treasure, it’s a fun hobby , gotta pre heat the molds no matter what it’s made of

Make sure your copper is good and hot for pouring , especially in those steel molds it may be freezing too fast and trapping gasses instead of allowing it to escape . Your pour looked really good. 👍😁

Thanks will do in my next pour.

aluminum wire is more pure and shrinks a lot, while cast aluminum is more of an alloy. Your wire my dear, was aluminum with a colored varnish coating on it. Always preheat your molds before pouring . Keep up the good work , and please be safe . 👍👍
@kateonianlaw11272 жыл бұрын
The cast aluminum used was probably is a alloy of aluminum and zinc and the wire is just aluminum which shrinks slightly, while zinc expands as it cools.

Melt it longer and get hotter would help but if you put the mold back on the furnace to heat the mold more it won't cool so quick. That mold cooled down to quick on that plate

I conjecture the gold color is aluminum bronze. Aluminum is soluble in molten copper, and the discoloration is where the copper was hottest as it hit the mold, so some traces of aluminum may have been dissolved in the copper. Presumably it's quite a superficial layer, may have even been polished off when you cleaned them up. The bubbles are dissolved gasses and are nigh impossible to avoid in an open topped mold. There are some steps that can minimize it: degassing, don't stir the melt, electric furnace. I've experimented with degassing for aluminum, but generally found it easier to use closed molds with a riser positioned so that the gasses go there. I don't know if degassing copper is similar to degassing aluminum.

Thanks for the advice. I was considering making a top for the mold to see if it would help. I've done my second pour still getting the same results. I also was thinking of cutting the mold down so I can set it in the kilm and get it hotter.
@THirstyCamel10232 жыл бұрын
I just wanted to say if ya think about why it got better because the steel was already pre heated from the first two pours to make the third pour better, so pre heat your steel molds first and make sure your pouring temp is correct
@mattesonfamilyfarm67602 жыл бұрын
Thanks I'm going to pick up a heat gun to check the temperature of the mold.

I appreciate your ambition and enthusiasm. Great channel. Unfortunately what you did in the video exposed both you and your viewers to so many potentially catastrophic hazards I can’t even count them. Pouring aluminum is relatively safe if you understand how it behaves and you treat it accordingly. I’d recommend you take your rig back outside, always pour with a face shield, and heat any steel tools, molds, and ingot molds to red heat before pouring or submerging in aluminum. Peace.

Thank you for you concerns. I will be sure to wear and promote more safety gear in future videos. Unfortunately for were I live melting outside is not a option this time of year. We had 6 inches of snow that day. I do keep the door open in the shop and fan running to keep fresh air flowing in the shop. I also heated all the tools used. Just didn't put it in the video. I will add this to. Thanks again for watching out for me and other viewers.

How much wood you go thru on a days worth of boiling ? Say 50 gals
@mattesonfamilyfarm67602 жыл бұрын
Once everything was up to temperature I was boiling off about 50 gallons a hour with the big biller. I was boiling 2 to 300 gallons. Going through about a rack of wood each boil. The small boiler was boiling off about 8 gallons a hour. I was using about a pallet of wood each time I finished.
