That’s a good job. There’s hundreds of them, you got the lot round that structure. How long does it take for it to repopulate? If you go there the next week is it the same ?!

Great photography! Love the soundtrack too. I dove it 1983 thru 1994. Has really collapsed, the spare prop was on the deck as a great subject with a diver next to it for scale. Found the binnacle lantern on the first 10 min of my first dive on her in '83. Was on the gunnel, wedged under a pipe put there when they blew the superstructure in 1964.

I hate to see an unintended sinking. But reefing a retired vessel that almost immediately attracts life... I just love these videos.

Nice job, i've never understood the animosity from the free-diving community. You'd think the gripe would be with charter boats/ commercial fishing ect.

I'm pissed that they didn't make the USS Oriskany a museum. I served aboard from 71 to 74 and I live in Western New York near the Battle of Oriskany Battleground. It would have seen more fitting to restore the Oriskany an anchor it in New York Harbor take the USS Intrepid and Scuttle that in the Gulf of Mexico. Rotten bastards.

How long do they figure this ship will last relatively intact before the structure starts to collapse? It's already been reported that it was shifted some distance from the original resting spot during one of the last big hurricanes that hit the area. Even before they sank it, it had been sitting rusting in dock for 3 decades. As far as her sister ships are concerned -- the ones that were preserved as museum ships --, my understanding is that TOPSIDE their hulls are in excellent shape. The one that was judged to be in "worst shape" actually came out fairly well even though the group that cares for that ship (USS Yorktown CV-10) was advised they still had to do some conservation work. Very, very expensive stuff which is why there are only 5 carriers preserved as museum ships...

@PaulinAtlanta6 жыл бұрын
The Lionfish is an invasive species that eats many of the local species of fish. Outside of their natural range, they have very few predators so they're over populating many areas and threatening the native species of fish.
