Great video, alan schaller has to be one of my favorite photographers ever. His style just can speak to you on many different levels. Also he seems genuinely like a cool guy you can hangout with and take photos together. Thank you again 🙏🏻

Forget all the bs tech that those more "convenient" cameras have today, like dual pixel af, 2 billion megapixels, 4k 120 fps, ibis lol. In the end, the ultimate output is the moment of joy you have when you look at the picture or when you show it to someone. And this is not a number. But it sure is superior to any camera made today and possibly ever. A true expression of character with all the harmonious imperfections in every shot. The colors, the tone, almost a 3d effect sometime. End game camera in my view would be the Leica M8 rangefinder.

Shooting a rangefinder you probably shouldn't close your left eye when focusing and framing.

Congrats for this video and your channel! What about if I'm in full manual mode (I choose my ISO, shutter speed and aperture)? I guess it doesn't matter which light metering mode you choose (spot, evaluative etc...). Am I right? I've done some tests, and the metering mode makes no difference when I'm in full manual.Could you confirm (or not...) please ? Regards.
@dathudo
@dathudo 2 ай бұрын
You are correct. Metering mode just affects how your camera meters light. In full manual you control the exposure. But the camera might still meter and show you if it thinks you are over- or underexposing. Using this as a guide to your exposure is much like using an external light meter. If you use this as a tool, choosing the metering mode is still relevant, as you will want to know what the camera is metering for.

Have used a leica m rangefinder. Very bad focus experience. Sold it after 2 month. Why making life so difficult when u have already top notch focus systems on cameras.

Maybe it's just modern photography, but I dislike Alan's style. His photos look like AI. Street photography for me needs a grittyness to the images and some soul. These are soo clean that they look fake. I find them really boring and this guy is overrated.

I believe camera is just the tool that lets a photographer create an image, be it a Leica or a Canon or a Sony, all can create great images in the right hands, but... I was just looking at the sample images in the Leica website and realized 90% of it are crap. Uninteresting photos taken with very expensive cameras. Some people think that horrible photos are interesting or artistic just because a Leica was used, or film or whatever lens or B&W. People, please don't do that. Leica, please select better your photographers, I know there are and there have been legendary Leica users, why not calling them?

At 4:27 you can see it’s a Summicron however, I think this is the 50mm rather than the 35mm because, it has the built in lens (which has been retracted). I used to this 50mm Summicron type and the 35mm Summicron (non-asph). The 35mm Summicron, even the asph is more compact lens than the 50mm.
