Why put on the blue lights? First of all, the B1 isn’t SBS. Second of all, the MTA could be penalized by law for blue lights are restricted to emergency vehicles. That is the very reason why they were replaced by blue signs on SBS routes.

The evolution of this station lead to some interesting consequences. Originally, the lower level, as shown here belonged to the Brighton Line’s local tracks which is evident by the empty trackways leading to it. The Culver Line had to take over West 8th St’s lower level in order to extend to Coney Island so the Brighton Line was left with just its express tracks on that section. This is why the Brighton Line’s local and express tracks merge into each other after Ocean Pkwy and what is now both sets of tracks fused together was therefore formerly just the express tracks as the local tracks, as mentioned in the beginning were on the lower level. This also led to express trains short-turning at Brighton Beach to avoid merging with local trains due to the insufficient turning capacity at Coney Island for all trains from both services combined and Brighton Beach acts as the usual express terminus instead of Ocean Pkwy despite the express tracks continuing until the latter because there’re no crossovers there.

Why did u stop recording MTA ?

Brighton service at Brighton Beach and Ocean Parkway is hella weird, almost as if the roles should be reversed. Brighton Express should end at Coney Island, while Brighton Local should end at Ocean Parkway, turning around using the right-of-way of the former Brighton Local tracks. As for which services to be in Brighton, (N) for Express, (Q) for Local.
