It is locked in down position. Reverse doesn’t need a pin. I use the pulley system to pull the entire motor up when in shallow water.

Yes, but not very often as I am able to back up to the water most of the time. I do have the new sand wheels on it and was going to use it on a particular low tide, when I found out that there is no way to tie directly to wheels as with the original wheels.

I appreciate your concern. If you live in Florida during the Summer, storms blow up almost every day. If you want to fish in Florida during the Summer, then you have to be on the water at times when storms show up. I can assure you I wasn’t fishing in the middle of a storm. It was quite some distance away. I had not heard any thunder for about 10 minutes (again - that had been a good distance away). So, the thunderclap near me was unforeseen. The “lighting rod” is an anchor pole. Had I have known that was going to happen I would have dropped it in the water. Blessings!
