I know this place very well and actually, lived close by and swam in that pool as a child. It’s a shame part of it is rundown, but the cost of maintaining it was too high. It still has beautiful grounds and is a lovely building and I hope that some day it is brought back to its former glory.

One has to suspect this 'yard' has fallen foul of the Environmental Agency ... #1 … Any yard has to be concreted and properly drained into catch tanks. #2 … Parts have to be removed, not left in situ. Then catalogued. Proper stock books kept. #3 … All oil, brake fluid and battery acids to be drained and held in proper storage. This is a 1970's scrap yard in presentation and 100% illegal … Hence I suspect the owner/owners have run away before the fine arrives and they are hit with an enforcement notice to rectify the place. If you are one of those who whines about the cost of 2nd hand parts from yards … The above is why it now costs so much.

We used to go down there as a kids 30 years ago, you could walk through one end and out the other with no problems whatsoever. It wasn’t blocked off, and was always a laugh. The council have made a right mess by backfilling it, they could have opened it up as part of a heritage tour. 🤷🏻👍🏻
