Its amazing to watch a great player tell you what NOT to do then see another great player doing EXACTLY what the other great player told you NOT to do. Speaking of melody David Griers arrangements sound NOTHING like the song--If the video weren't titled I would think he was making up a new song as he went along

"Yikes" Jorma, From the very first time I brought home the first Hot Tuna album soon after its release, you've influenced how I interact with my guitars. You made finger-picking cool again. Thank you.

He is one of the best I ever heard. 4 foundation flatpickers in no order. Norman, Tony, Doc and Clarence. Everyone learned to master their craft my listening to and patterning themselves after one of these guy or parts from each.

She is the only female player I've ever heard that can play this song with authority, and, as she says in the beginning, with the funk, force, and groove the song needs. There's nothing dainty or mannered about the way she plays it-she can hold her own with any male player.

I have his VHS Tape from Homespun when it came out in the 90’s. It’s like brand new. He is outstanding. If you didn’t know he tuned down it would drive you crazy trying to do that.His double stops are so different than others you know exactly who it is in 2 seconds when he starts without seeing him and yes he is so underrated

Is there a version of him playing this, you know on a good guitar in high quality, without the lesson? Just the tune? Not the original with the band, this sounds better. Cheers.

I love Earl and JD. I respect Bela. But Ralph is my all time favorite banjo player. His sound moves me. It just sounds more raw and closer to the mountains than the concert hall. And oh my goodness, his singing..just phenomenal!
Thanks for mentioning is in open G at the end of the video xD

Darling, you are playing a song called Flying South by Jerry Reed. Well you are playing half of it. Chet plays the other part. I accidentally rewrote a song of his myself, so I know from where I speak. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZnzYhISArZupm7ssi=cxaGsO-f03M3YGTs I believe you will find it very familiar. And wait until you come across all the harmonics. You will love it.

He plays the song differently here from the way it's played in the studio version. Please listen to this video and the original back to back. Why did he do this?
@AdamTraum7 ай бұрын
John is doing his solo arrangement to comp for the lack of the band. Songs also evolve over time, and this is an example of that.
