This is a very bad representation of the Dutch Linear tactics, and is nothing like what Maurits did in the Battle of Nieuwpoort. In real history, the Dutch focused on having high rate-of-fire: their lines will quickly shift to the back to reload while the next line opens fire. Each line should also have two pike companies on the flanks to protect them. This was to give the Dutch soldiers more mobility to counter the cumbersome and tightly packed Spanish Tercios, which worked extremely well. I did not see any such thing in this video. Very disappointing. If this was like the Dutch tactics, then the Spaniards would have been given a run for their money. This should have been an easy Dutch victory as the Spaniards did not really have a numerical advantage. Sorry for being overly critical but calling this "Dutch Tactics" is nothing short of a lie. Urge the devs to do more research particularly on the Eighty Years War where the Dutch fought for their independence from the Spanish Empire, and absolutely kicked the crap out of the Spaniards.

Here is a very good video explaining Maurits' battle tactics by SandRhoman History: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5XFZpdombd3fsksi=1eDyOi9ZnLy77sJg heavily utilising firearms and lessening hand on hand combat. The Dutch paved the way for modern warfare and truly bringing the world out of the Medieval Era.

Here is another video made by Defragged History on the Battle of Nieuwpoort: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXW8pn6GrL2gra8si=-31n91ICtxZ8jKSX along with their Eighty Years War series. This should be a starting point for in-depth research on what I believe is a very obscure point in history that nobody ever talks about, but should get a lot more attention.

LMAO The Dutch lost the vast majority of battles in open fields, so they were the ones who got kicked the crap, and only became independent after the exhaustion of Spain (population: 5 million) fighting for 1 and a half centuries against the French, English, Ottomans, Germans, Dutch, Swedes, etc. The Spanish Tercios dominated the battlefields from Cerignola in 1503 to the Battle of the Dunes in 1658

@darthjarjarjar Жыл бұрын
@@kapiteingrasparkiet7574Of course...it's not like Holland needed the help of France/England/German Protestant States, Denmark, Sweden, Venice and the support of the Ottoman to defeat the thirds, independence was not achieved until 1640 (150 years of war with its truces) so yes, they are powerful, Viva El Imperio Español
@kapiteingrasparkiet7574 Жыл бұрын
@@darthjarjarjar 1. None of the nations you listed above aided the Dutch consistently throughout the entire duration of the Eighty Years War. Unless you were refering to the Thirty Years War, which may I remind you is only part of the Eighty Years War. The Thirty Years War was not the Dutch War for Independence - it's the Eighty Years War. 2. Spain had France (at the start), Austria, Habsburg etc. aiding them, some even till the end of the War. The Dutch at first were pretty much on their own. 3. Name me one significant naval battle in which the Spanish caused the Dutch navy to be locked up in port for the next few years, having full control over their returning fleets from the East Indies and placing them decades worth in debt that they come slobbering up for a truce. Go on, I'll wait.

All this in addition to sending 4 Armadas against England (1588, 1596, 1597 and 1601) and defeating the Ottomans at the Battle of Lepanto (1571). @@chasecraley8659 The first row of men fire their weapons then go to the back of the line to reload. The second row steps forward and takes the place of the first and so on. You can find videos on KZbin for countermarch in Medieval 2. Also, the Battle of Rocroi from Alatriste (again, it can be found on KZbin) gives a good depiction of pike & shot warfare of the period.

@Chase Craley Do not forget the Swedish salvee or Salvo where they would half a Salvo half of the musket block firing at once or a full Salvo firing all at once. Very devistating but then you have the problem of half or a full musket block with un loaded wepons quickly reloading. Which is why they did fore by introduction fire and advance fire in extrituction, fire and retreat and fire by rank in the steadfast where each rank takes their turn advancing to where the sergent was standing wait for the order present your peice...give fire retire second rank March to the Ford March present you price give fire and so on. These methods of fire were more commonly used to insure that a good portion of your musket block.haf loded wepons protecting the ones who were reloading while at the same.time.keeping us a sustained rate of fire at the enemy. What I would like to see on the musketeers unit icion is not only the ammunition bar but another bar showing how much slow match you had left and the slowmatch bar slowly counts down as a typical length of slowmatch was 5-6 feet in length and had the burn rate of one foot an hour or so. For argument sake you would need four 6 foot lengths of slowmatch for a full day of burn time.

This is how cavalry actually behaved in 17th century. During charge, cavalry troopers made a shot, broke through enemy position, turned back and charged again. We are trying to recreate it to make combat more realistic and historically accurate.
