I love how much you seem to enjoy Periphery. It’s one of my favs by her. ♥️

"You are sick and you're married and you might be dying But you're holding me like water in your hands When you saw the dead little bird, you started crying But you know the killer doesn't understand" Maybe some of the best lyrics I've ever heard. Went through a really devastating heart break this year and every letter of these lyrics hit me deep. She referenced earlier that she'd be waiting like a dog with a bird at his door. When she says that he cried when he saw the bird because the killer doesn't understand --- I took this as her being the killer. She killed the bird and gave it as an offering to him because she's so in love with him, and he saw the gift and cried because she doesn't understand that he can't love her or be with her. And the "holding me like water in your hands" line I took as him holding her so delicately so she doesn't spill. I took it as him having to be extremely careful with her actually. Water representing emotions and him having to hold her through all of that.

It definitely has certain lines that elude to this. I see it as platonic envy for a physical person, but this is one of the popular theories, too.

This is what I think Puberty 2 is about: Happy- About how she will do anything to be happy again but the only way she has found a way to be happy is to self sabotage Dan the Dancer- About Dan who is depressed and anxious and is scared to open up to anyone in anyway but he meets one person who he does trust and makes him happy but he puts himself in danger with it Once More to See You- About someone who loves their partner so much they can’t even be with them or it will ruin both of their lives due to not being able to think about anything besides each other Fireworks- About someone who refuses to stand up to their hurt and pain and instead decides to just ignore it and not deal with it by making their selves numb Your Best American Girl- About poc women feeling that they are not good enough for the white men that they are interested in so they try to change theirselves for them but instead they lose apart of themselves in the process Moon~ A white woman Sun~ A white man Star~ A white woman who dresses up as a poc Morning Birds~ News Reporters Night~Dating a woman of color I Bet on Losing Dogs- It’s up to your interpretation about the losing dogs My Body is Made of Crushed Little Stars- About someone who fails to understand why they are alive and how they have gotten there and they want to do more but they are restrained by the weight of everything Thursday Girl- About someone who wants to stop their hurt but they don’t know how to and are waiting for someone to come and save them from it but their white knight doesn’t exist and they have to come to terms with that A Loving Feeling-About someone who is in an unloving relationship but has made themselves believe that they love each other Crack Baby- About someone who feels like they are missing something or someone in their life but they don’t know what it is and don’t know how to get it A Burning Hill- About making the choice to better yourself and get yourself out of a bad situation

If you want a little “lyrics backstory” there’s an article where she explains the lyrics to every song on this album. Like for instance “Sebastian said I’m a good man in a storm” is in reference to in her words: [My bassist] Sebastian [Steinberg] said that when we were in Marfa, Texas. We almost got arrested for weed possession. We got pulled over, and Sebastian was smoking from an apple in the back, and I kicked into control mode. I was like, “David has brown skin, so he cannot be the one holding the pot. Sebastian has long hair and a long beard; he cannot be the one holding the pot. I’m the little white girl, I need to be holding the pot.” So I said, “Sebastian, eat the apple now, give me the pot.” And I put it in my sock, and he ate this disgusting apple really fast. And then they got us out of the car. There was a drug dog. They brought us out of the car, and I had the weed in my sock, and they’re so busy talking to the brown man and the hippie guy that they don’t notice that the drug dog is really into my sock. They’re like, “Oh, she’s a white girl. It doesn’t matter. The dog just likes her.” They just wanted to get the guys in trouble. Anyway, we got through that situation, so that’s why Sebastian said that to me. I was like, “Oh, thank you.”

Hey there. I'm from Brazil. I've listened to that album and it amazes me how Fiona has grown on me. I'm not so familiar with her previous albuns and I remember so well when she was a big hit on MTV, "criminal" being her most well-know song. I was not so into her songs though . However, as she grew older somehow her work (idler wheel) resonated with my own feelings towards romantic relationships, and anxiety. More importantly, I love the way she talks about abstract things like emotions, whether dark or positive and turns into beautiful songs. I totally feel you.

I am so late to this comment section but I LOVEEEEEEE largo, it encompasses how she has people and isn’t alone despite the theme of the album being self isolation. I feel like it’s so introspective and a good node to counter the isolated themes

when she said “but your skin, did you notice your skin it cries a soft weep like mine?” i was thinking of physical abuse. i was thinking that the guy was abused in the past and now he abuses her. so now their skin is all broken and bruised and is almost crying out for help when the bruises appear. idk if this makes sense but that was my interpretation

Hiii so for i want you the "i found you i foubd the door but when i steeped through there was no floor" thing she's most likely referencing to her song "door" as she already did sometimes. She's saying that she found the door= the love but that this love couldn't work bcs of their situation at this time so she's like falling deeper than she already was bcs maintaining or trying to maintain this love is aggraving their situation

i kinda see last world of a shooting star like a suicide letter. the goodbye at the end is basically her saying goodbye to the living world. "They'll never know hoe i stared at the dark of my room like a blood sniffing shark", she's bsdically talking about people not realizing that she lost the will to live- spending every day and night in the dark, with that feeling of emptiness inside of her. " I'm relieved that i left my room tidy," is almost like a way to say that she did all she had left to do before dying, completing all of her final tasks so she can leave without any weight on her shoulders. Idk just my interperation lol

i don't smoke is not a song, but a freling. I personally relate to everything, and she also knows exactly how to express those feelings through words, i remember being desperate of my ex begging him to hit me so he would feel better and not ghost me for days.Mitski fan since 2010💕
