Goldwing is not meant to be ridden in these terrains. Wrong choice of motorcycle

Hi Biju, I've got a GW, and I'm going with columbus Tours in August to Austria and Switzerland. Have you any advice or tips on riding the GW on the passes. Thanks.

We had a fantastic time with Columbus. Even with my limited experience on Goldwing, we did not encounter any issues. Most of the roads were fantastic. With the tight curves, I always slow down and make sure no other vehicle is approaching as I need to go a bit wide on the bends. I had my wife as pillion, and additional luggage on top rack. Make sure you adjust the suspension setting accordingly. Otherwise you will scratch the foot peg on the curves when you lean. Probably you might know all these already. Good luck, have a great time…..

Rode both passes a few times each time 2 up and with a trailer behind. It makes for interesting riding.

Well done. Did it on a k1600 myself solo. Dont think i get the attraction myself. Too narrow, crappy condition, too slow, too much stopping for opposite direction....Cannot imagine 2up with luggage. Are you desparate to do it again?

Thank you ….We are still exploring different countries, going to Croatia, Slovenia etc this year. Not sure whether we will do this road again on motorbike😆

Why don't you wear bike safety clothing on the rear seat?

Cool, mit so einem schweren Eisen diese Pass Straße zu fahren … 👍. In vielen Kehren kommst Du jedoch deutlich auf die Gegenspur 😢 … da ist wohl das Handling der GW sehr begrenzt, oder? 🧐

I am an owner of 2018 + Goldwing. I live in Greece where a lot of roads are full of hairpins. But this cublestone road xombined with a pillion is extremely stressful for Rider & passenger .

Took a bit of practise but got over Wrynose and HardKnott without dismounting on a bicycle. This took me back so thanks for that.

I drove up it fifty years ago in an old Maxi with a slipping clutch; put it in first gear at the bottom and did not dare to try to change gear until the top. To add to my woes the state of the surface shook the fuel pipe loose and by the bottom all I knew was that i had lost about four gallons, but did not know why. AA Land Rover had to come out from Ravenglass to sort me out.

One of the highest riding roads around the NE is the Kangamangus highway at 2,900' elevation. We have to drive up Mt Washington to get an elevation of 6,288'. 😊

Absolutely beautiful scenery. As a DCT owner with 60,000+ miles on one, making those hairpin turns without a clutch seems frightening, I have 400,000+ miles on bikes with a clutch, great riding skills that you have 👍

Very well handled and as others have said this shows clearly how steep some of the sections are. I am not a biker but have driven Hardknott and Wrynose on many occasions. The uphill stretch past the stone bridges catches out many who don't realise they need to change down before the bend because they won't have chance on the way out. The switchback on your downhill section looks even worse in a car as it seems that the road simply vanishes. Impressive riding and great shots of the scenery. Thanks for posting this up.
