Ian, you haven't posted in a year. Is everything OK? I am no longer in the United States, I decided to finish my career here working for the Army. I talked to you about Torque Wrenches and now I am knee deep in them. In the past year I have calibrated and adjusted probably 500 of them from a few small inch ounce units to 1000 foot pounds, 100,000 pound crane scales, torque cells and sensors, Let me tell you, loading 375 pounds onto a 48 inch torque lever aint easy for a 64 year old, slinging 50 pound weights is a bitch. Anyway, I hope you and your family are doing well. Peace brother.

@@IanLandesman Pretty much the same, changed jobs, changed continents, changed lives, I do check in but when you make that many changes, something has to give. But on the plus side, it's football season and college ball and the NFL are providing endless fun. It weird watching Saturday games on Sunday, Sunday games on Monday and so on and so forth. Big time difference between the USA and Korea. Have to use VPN to continue using streaming services. Even KZbin videos with extreme content has to be viewed with the VPN or the Koreans interrupt and make me prove I am 21, which I can't because I am a foreigner. Good times. I am glad every thing is well. Peace brother.

What direction did you put the double lip seal? With the grooves in or out? They're not actually grooves in the seal but appear to have curved lines on one side of it and a lip facing out on the other side. Thanks.

If you ain't using a NIST traceable and calibrated torque wrench, then you are just guessing. I am only saying that because I calibrate for a living and just want more people pouring money into expensive torque wrenches and the calibration industry. Do I use torque wrenches on my own home cars? Nope. Hi Ian.
@IanLandesman
@IanLandesman Жыл бұрын
I think using a torque wrench with car wheels helped me understand the concept. Also f'ing up and stretching small bolts way past helped me understand. I'm sure you have a real feel for it now. I don't do it enough. I don't think I got close to the stretch point on these

@IanLandesman

My Buell called for blue loctite. Old school greybeards always told me to be sure to use red on sprockets just to avoid this. I'll never ride this bike far enough to wear out the sprocket though.

Wow what an interesting video. I just got a 20KW Kohler unit installed 3 months ago. How are the new units compared to the unit described in this video? Is the problem still a concern? Little concerned with reliability after seeing this.

Now admit it, did you torque those down using a NIST traceable torque wrench that was appropriate for the torque value you needed? And....wazzzup Ian, I haven't been the faithful subscriber I once was. Just accepted a 3- 5 year technical deployment to Korea...so been a busy camper.
@IanLandesman

Congratulations on the deployment! This is actually the second time they loosened up and I had to retap the holes and use time-serts. Prob not enough meet to do that again. I'll know more when I take it apart.

I got 12,000 miles out of my Ulysses belt. They should last a lot longer than that. Harley belts do.
@IanLandesman
@IanLandesman Жыл бұрын
Yes they should last close to 10x that. What was failure? Rock? Some wisdom in changing pulleys on these old bikes as corrosions and chips can wear a belt prematurely. I would rather change the belt, but that's an option for you.
