Sounds like a healthy Vee dub. My friend built a Celebrity with an O-200. We had to build a steel landing gear as the aluminum gear the Fisher's sent out bent during taxi tests.

What is the specs on the VW powerplant? GP or Hummel etc. What is your W and B like?
@Weaselrv109 жыл бұрын
Hummel 85 HP lightweight. single mag ignition and hand start. No electric. W&B is 12.1 inches with me as the pilot. Range is 10.08-13.44 but does not have a cowling. The engine is as far aft as practical. There is even a relief built into the fuselage for the carb and magneto.

Let me ask you something... for a guy with only tricycle gear time.. is it going to be hard to fly the conventional gear without getting a bunch of dual time with conventional gear... with the Legal Eagle? Thanks... Like you Video.
@Weaselrv109 жыл бұрын
Everyone is different! Good motor skills come natural for some people and others not so much. Can you wake board, water ski, ride motor cycle? Almost anyone can learn to fly conventional gear its just easier for some than others. You are the one that can evaluate yourself best. If you are good at motor skills in general it will come easy.
@MrAmericanworkmule9 жыл бұрын
Joel Graber Ya answers that .. I will teach myself...
@AdamsTubing4 жыл бұрын
easy to learn. build a cheap tricycle cart out of wood. tailwheel in the rear hooked up to yer rudder pedals. use a waterski rope to tow behind quad or golf cart. you hold the rope with hands and learn to “dance” the pedals to steer. you will tip a few times so it recommended to do this on grass or dirt. obviously u let go of rope when wiping out.

hi, im building the same aircraft can you help please: what is your total emty weight? are you confortable with 85hp to flight with passenger or need more power? what prop diametter do you use and what pitch? thanks
@Weaselrv1010 жыл бұрын
85 hp is just right. If you are building a Classic you have to watch the weight on everything! The plane was designed around the Rotax 582 and if you put any extra on it the VW will be too heavy. No starter, no electrical period. Using a performance propellers USA 60x26.

@hughes239710 жыл бұрын
Can you run the full VW engine on these, or would that be too much weight?
@Weaselrv1010 жыл бұрын
Naw. that would be WAY to heavy! Weight is the critical item. We try to cut down on the ounces not pounds.
@virtualmakerspace6 жыл бұрын
Not if you want to stay within 107 rules/weight
@pdutube5 жыл бұрын
Adding my comment years later for other viewers, the designer of the Legal Eagle, Leonard Milholland, sells plans for what is known as the "Better Half" VW engine. That is a full case VW engine with two cylinders removed and the crankshaft cut in half. A Legal Eagle with that engine is FAA Part 103 legal, hence the name. His engine solves the oil cooling and vibration issues that some other half-case VW solutions have.
@wormhole3316 ай бұрын
I seen a video with the designer and he showed his “double eagle” that uses a full VW engine (plans available) but that’s a light sport because of the weight.
