I was a little concerned when Chris made the comment that there are alot of backorder and they're working to correct that. Please don't turn Yairi into production guitars. It will ruin their reputation and history they have worked so hard for. But then again I can't see Yairi agreeing to change that much.

So I just bought one and I’m going to say the fit and finish was not that impressive. Swirl finish marks and fine scratches everywhere, and the inside had little bits of wood that should’ve been blown or vacuumed out as well as some kind of dust or dirt covering the sticker label in the sound hole. I wouldn’t brag about that. THAT SAID IT IS THE BEST SOUNDING OM MODEL I’VE EVER PLAYED. Had to shout that last part because it’s more important.

Surprised they didn't touch more on slotted or unslotted. Unslotted are better...but most guitars use slotted. With slotted the ball falls towards the bridge pin...not the bridge plate. This is a big deal....you loose lots of sound transfer!

@Alvarez Guitars I love your videos and am always looking forward to the next. Would you consider doing a video on the topic of saddle material choice, and why you choose TUSQ mainly. I have come to like bone after A/B testing with my own 4 masterworks yairis. EDIT: I just realized on your website the 2024 Masterworks come with bone saddles! Hurrah! I ordered the parlor and have enjoyed it. My bandmate, who worked with GC, and has opened and played and set up hundreds of guitars, was impressed with it for the price point. I could go on and on about it. My only negative so far is that the A string seems unbalanced and rather boomy, with a bit of unwanted resonance. I can filter that out but not when it's live. When I change strings maybe I'll do something a little different and see if that helps.

Would you ever consider producing a small bodied, 12 fret, 12 string, of solid honduran mahagony, and if so... how would you do the bracing on a design like this? Oooh la la, make it please. I'm entranced by this wood, and its story. I live way up on the Keweenaw in the UP of Michigan. I want to go find cool tonewood in our forests for you. Oh, and I have a question about Yaka Sugi wood. Could it be used in instruments? The traditional methid of burning cypress to protect wood. Curious... it must structurally do something, in that process and it could be a beautiful finish. Thanks. Im binge watching Yairi Honduran. 😂

@kerricorser456211 күн бұрын
@lebe220 yes! My 12 was reverse strung back in the 70s. I didn't even know that it was reverse. A few months ago I'd ordered a takamine 12 jumbo and I was so perplexed when it came in strung normally. I thought someone screwed up. Lol I hadn't played one since the 70s.
@lebe22010 күн бұрын
@@kerricorser4562 In the 70s everybody wanted a 12string. I have an Ovation, but it´s a problem with the upstroke because the thin strings are lower. I've owned the original FST2 Fym60hd for a year and a half. It is the most comfortable, easy to play guitar I've ever experienced. Wonderful sustain. More than enough bass. Then I heard Alveraz was changing to FST6 bracing and a deeper body. My first thought was if it ain't broke why fix it. Then I compared my Fym60hd to my Furch yellow OM. Same body depth. So the original Fym60hd is a normal OM guitar. I went to the Furch website and I saw that they too make a deep body OM. So I think both sizes are fine. But I think the original Fym60hd would be more comfortable and easier to play for older people. Especially if that person has shoulder issues. So I'm definitely hanging on to my Fym60hd.

@lefthandpath158712 күн бұрын
This is an amazing achievement Chris. I've an FYM60HD FST6 and a Guild D-55E - about the same played-in time. The Yairi OM can go as loud as the Guild dreadnought, while maintaining bell-like clarity. No Taylor / Martin OM I've played can similarly match a dread, while delivering OM's quieter passage finesse. If you want one guitar no compromise, thiis FYM is it.

The FYM60HD sales history on Reverb shows between $2400 (used mint) to $3300 (new). The FYM66HD sales history on Reverb shows between $2200 (used mint) to $3000 (new). Note: Sellers have to pay 5% of the purchase price to Reverb, and they build that into their price - so you can negotiate that away if you buy from the seller's own website, not Reverb.

My own experience: bought a brand new FYM66HD FST6 direct from a small seller in Feb 2024 and was able to negotiate the 5% and other terms favorable to him to get it for $2,700, all in. However, this was before the current shortage - there were at least 10 then listed on Reverb. But, small sellers will neogitate. Strongly recommend my guy if you're looking Kyle at Musicians Madness, in Crowley Tx.

I was torn between that and the 60HD. If you go to the Alvarez website, you can do a direct A/B compare of them being chorded / strummed / fingerpicked. Also: It takes time to break through the "label junkie" mentality of guitarists (eg. folks who've been buying the Gibson label for the past 40 yrs, paying jacked up pricing for garbage fit, finish, and tuning stability). Collings used to be less well known / hard to find until about 15 years ago, and 2009 pricing reflected that. Try to find a Collings now for what you would have paid then🤣 That's Yairi's trajectory.
