Hey, do you recommend I learn guitar on an 8 string if I know music theory and I ultimately want to play an 8 string? (All I need is to learn songs and muscle memory)
@eightmetalstrings9 сағат бұрын
If you know what you want to do is ultimately play an 8-string, then I'd say go for it!
@AhmadKharrat-cq2rk4 сағат бұрын
@eightmetalstrings I mean I know the articulations: chugs, palm mutes, bends pinch harmonics, pick scraps etc... Love the channel! I think it will be my main resource when learning to play, I ordered my 8 string. Wish me luck 🖤 Also one question (if I'm not bugging you) What would say are some 8 string specific skills I need to practice? (like muting the low strings)
@eightmetalstrings3 сағат бұрын
@@AhmadKharrat-cq2rk Nice! Can't wait for it to arrive for you. Hopefully the channel has lots for you to work on to start your 8-string journey. In terms of what to work on, that choice usually depends a lot on the music you want to play, but I'm assuming you mean general techniques. Having control over the guitar's resonance is absolutely important on the 8-string, so yes, muting with both hands is a must (try strumming a 1-string funk rhythm while muting all the other strings, harder than it sounds!) Other than that, just getting used to the wider fretboard and learning how to move across it is important. String skipping, slow sweeping, and finger picking will all serve you well.

I just wanted to ask: why not just use the Audio file you got or convert it to wav. But as you said in the comments below: a lot of people don't even own a copy of the album in a suitable format (DRM free) i.e. the original CD. That and creating Rocksmith versions is why i carry 20-30 cds home, every time iam in japan (and i like owning stuff).

Thank you, Thomas! This is a very nice and useful tutorial. There are just a couple of very minor things I found a bit confusing. At 8:15, you mention that the rhythm slows down on the triplet. I understand, that it feels like it slows down after the triplet, but it took me a while to process Also, I think the tabs would be slightly more readable with an explicit triplet boundary (like in the first triplet in the fourth bar)
@eightmetalstrings3 күн бұрын
Thanks for the feedback Kiril! Yes, a couple of things in the tab bugged me as well as Guitar Pro is not as customizable as something like sibelius, but most people use GP. Glad you could figure out that "slowing down" feeling. It's a bit weird until you actually feel it for yourself. Good luck working on this one this month! Excited to see how it goes.

So I am planning on possibly buying a guitar in the future and was wondering if I should start with a 6 string or go straight to an 8 string any advice would be gratefully appreciated!
@eightmetalstrings4 күн бұрын
Super exciting! I would say it depends on your goals. What music inspires you the most to play? Is it mostly played on a 6-string or 7s/8s? Are you motivated to learn on your own or would you like there to be lots of pre-existing materials and lessons (6 string has lots of resources, but not so much on 8).
@Weghs3463 күн бұрын
@@eightmetalstrings I would say anywhere in the metal genre inspires me the most, a lot of the bands I like are played on a 6/7 but my top bands play with 8 strings and I would really like to learn some of their stuff. @Weghs346 Well, I always think that people who want to learn to play piano don't have to start with a mini keyboard, so I'd say go for it if you're up for it and that is what inspires you. Not many people in the world have started their guitar journey on 8-string so you'd be one of the pioneers!

HERE'S A FREE TIP, ON YOUR EIGHT STRING IN STANDARD, TURN THAT G STRING INTO AN F SHARP. Then you have two f-sharp strings, two e strings, and two b strings. All your standard chord shapes will take place in the middle six strings instead of the first six giving you an easier versatility to wrap your head around. I wrestled with it for months, made no sense to have two strings on the guitar that were only half of step apart, interfered with being able to do chords that use all eight or seven strings. And when I was finally about rip out my hair, I did that one little thing starting back over and I have not change the sense. However I sometimes drop that low f# to an e and change nothing else and it works very well

another fun tuning i like to use on my 8 string is to tune the 8th string up to G This allows you to use the same shapes you would use on your lower 3 strings (G, B and E) Also helps with tension on your 8th string. Sometimes it can get a bit floppy feeling if you arent using a multiscale

He also made a bunch of tools to better understand rythm in general, see his more recent videos. Personally I didnt try yet to make riffs like you did here or like meschuggah, it's in the plans but I tend to feel that I first need to start with an associated emotion first, otherwise almost anything will sound ok or good to my ears XD

Thanks very much! No, I haven't had a chance to try that style of guitar support. Looks like it would work pretty well with both sides being adjustable. My only worry would be that the length of the leg rest side is a little short and wouldn't feel super stable.

@Mandy-ve7ok24 күн бұрын
Not sure if you're going to see this or if anyone added some comments about this already, when it comes to guitar supports slipping on your pants, I may provide some insight on getting more stability. As a female classical guitarist, when I played concerts, those darn soft black pants I wore always made any guitar support slip too much. First, I tried some neoprene rubber strips that you can find in any hardware store to put between the guitar support and the pant leg. However, it was too sticky on the guitar support itself, so I dug around online, and there's a specific type of grip strip, the one I purchased is on the website Stringsbymail, in the guitar accessories -> guitar supports section. It's a beautiful sleek black one so the grip strip was not as noticeable on black pants lol. What I did next was just because I still felt a bit of instability when wearing the black dress pants (Any other fabric was fine), so I used double sided tape to tape the neoprene rubber strip under the black one, and so the colorful strip with more grip was on my pants and the nicer side to rest the guitar support on it. Hope my silliness helps! P.S For those saying just use a footstool, it can be a cheaper alternative, although the Dynarette is affordable too, if someone has a weak lower back (Which a lot of musicians do) that tilt in your spine over time will create back pain. It gets worse with age. When I was studying classical guitar, we had some back pain specialists on speed dial xD but importantly, we've had masterclasses just on correcting postures for all instruments. Cheers!

@eightmetalstringsАй бұрын
There are actually many different softwares that work very well to do similar things. I use one called the Amazing Slow Downer sometimes. The big problem though is that all these programs require an audio file to process. With most people streaming most of their music nowadays, the first part of this video is my main focus: how to snag the audio from any streaming platform. Once you have that, you are free to use whatever software you'd like, but I know many people already have a DAW, which is why I wanted to demonstrate that it is possible with the tools most people already own.

I initially learned to slow down a track in a variation of the same idea: - find the track url on youtube and use one of these website that generate an audio file from it (assuming almost any song has a youtube version) - go in Audacity and use the tooling there designed to slow down without impacting pitch (can't remember the name of that specific tool but it has been there for decades) But it's the same idea fundamentally of course.
