The road is nice. I think you should be fine to travel with family. However, I am not sure about very recent state of the road. This video was captured in 2020. Later I traveled on that road in 2023, then the road was good. If you are planning for a drive, try to avoid any shortcuts google map shows, rather follow main roads.

@@KnockAroundTheWorld thanks for the suggestions. Is road from Kushalanagar to Coorg is curvy and hilly with both side trench(khai)? As one of the person was telling like that.

I do agree that it's a little hilly with curves. I personally drove a car there. Never speed up more than 50-60. It's optimal for such roads. But I really don't recall trench (khai) there, as most of the sides either with local people's homes or trees (forest). There is nothing such worried stuff. But there is a single long slope at Madikeri town itself. In the video I tried to capture exact feel of the road.

3 to 3.5 hours while driving. But public transport like buses, can take upto 4hours.
