The guy with the beard with his back to the camera starting at about 0:08 is James Beiderbecke, a great-great nephew of Bix. James's great-grandfather was Biz's brother Burnie.

Kocher and his wife Susan Bartman retired from teaching at Forsythe Middle School in 2022. And his former co-band director Melissa Overhiser is now Melissa Carpenter, she got married.

Somebody should tell Dave Kosmyna that the penalties for arson are severe. Thank you for capturing this, Laura!

Thank you for listening to the music and narrative. We’re happy to share the music and history of Joe Jordan and other talented creators of American popular music with many venues and audiences. We believe their stories and music are worth sharing and do our best to do that. Thanks again.

Did anyone else catch the several notes of Gershwin at Carnegie Hall about 0.52 from Dapogny? I think that's what it was.

My jaw dropped at Dapogny's intro, and I didn't recover til The End. Oh my lord, thank you Michael Steinmann for sending the link. Hot, hot damn.

This needs a comment, or a hosanna: it captures our Prof. in all his whimsical glory. The only people who don't miss him are the ones not lucky enough to have met him or at least observed him. And please let us not ignore the Ann-Arbor-Basie-rhythm section passage after the horn solos. Bless the videographer, too: without pesky people with cameras and tripods, such heartfelt interludes would be just memories to be retold with astonishment and sorrow.

This is absolutely beautiful. Whenever I listen to clarinet jazz I just want spring to come, take a walk, enjoy the sun and the scent of flowers. Forget the bad things and focus and the good, I think this music is perfect for doing that. Thanks for uploading :)
