I never understood why OSR didn't replace the Hercules with the Dash 8 Q400 which would have been a more logical replacement than the Boeing 727.

A kick had caused the oil to leak through the annular preventer. By the time the shear rams engaged, effective pressure had already buckled the drill pipe out of center, preventing it from being cut completely. The continuous leak then destroyed all inner components.
