Hey man I don’t know if you’ll see this but I’m trying to do this on my floor soon with no experience. I’m trying to overlay it on top of planks ( 2” width) that run across the floor, I’m going to try to fill in the gaps between the planks before I apply primer and then the leveling compound. Can I do it that way or does it have to be applied directly onto plywood? I was hoping I wouldn’t have to remove the planks because that would require ripping up major sections of my house to get to them fully.
@zackcrafted12 сағат бұрын
Hey! That sounds like a big endeavour, if you can, I’d suggest you lay down some plywood if money isn’t an issue, preferable 3/8”, and then screw it off every 4-6” in a grid pattern. If the existing would planks are secure (maybe screw them off at every joist if they aren’t) you could just add 1/8” underlayment, screw it off, and add the self leveller. The problem with adding the leveler to the plank floor directly is that because it’s so watery and dries so fast it might follow the contours of the 2” planks as it fills that seams between boards. If your adding like 1/2” of leveller it probably doesn’t matter though Couple options! Maybe research it a bit more too to get other opinions Good luck!
@SovettaParmetta11 сағат бұрын
@ my man I did not even remotely consider that. Thank you so much seriously. I may be able to just get by by adding the plywood on top, the planks are just warped at certain parts so that will probably secure them down enough without self leveler. You are a life saver man thank you for the advice sincerely

So after describing you technically lower the height of the base (from the bottom) at the high poins of the floor to even it out. What happens if the adjacent walls are flat & level? The base for those walls will now be much taller than the scribed base.

So.. you moved a single plank about 2mm, if I understand your Queen's Canadian, and joined the broken lock on this end. So... what happened at the other end of that plank?

Greenboard mold resistant drywall above the shower kit and on the ceiling?

Great job you did. I love that you're very organized. I'm about to install 2"X2" black hexagon tiles inside the shower pan, but the corners of the shower pan aren't squared. How do i handle this issue? Thanks.
@zackcrafted7 күн бұрын
Ah, there’s a couple ways of tackling this, I’d suggest YouTubing it. One method is creating a template, and dry fitting all your tiles, another would be start in the centre and custom cut each edge piece. A few options, good luck!

I need to get those tile nippers, but I don't know what size or particular brand. Suggestions?
@zackcrafted7 күн бұрын
Hey! I don’t.. can’t even remember what brand these are. If you’re just doing it on the side, I think any pair would do. If it’s all day every day you might want to research a good brand that can hold up to the abuse Good luck!

I've done DIY and basement finishing on mine and 3 of my kid's houses, and it never fails when I install a pre-hung door, then take it off to paint it, that when I put it back on there is all of a sudden an alignment problem. I'm very careful not to get paint on/in the hinges, or put to much on the door edges. Videos like these, as well as a couple of others, always let me fix the problems. It always comes down to one of 3 solutions: 1. Remove and reinstall the door stops. Usually the hinge side and/or top (as shown in other videos) 2. Either bend or stretch the hinge (as shown in other videos) 3. Add shims behind the hinges (like this video) I've also seen videos where they move the hinge out, fill the old holes with wood splinters, and then re screw in. I think it's easier to move the door stops and less risk with too many holes in a small area. You really need to think of it as a "rectangle in a rectangle" and look at the whole picture to see what your specific cause is and the best solution. Glad there are videos like this still to help the DIY'ers!

I just called their customer support and thye said schulter ditra cannot be installed on tile smaller than 2"x2". Do you think it works okay?
@zackcraftedАй бұрын
Yep! They don’t. I haven’t used it on anything smaller then 2”x2” for this application it was fine. And in the last 5 years no issues with the floor. But a solid backer/subfloor, would make application go easier, as your tiles would ‘float’ less. That’s why you’ll see I use the float to press my tiles down, more consistent pressure for those small tiles
@johnlaker8960Ай бұрын
Did you use a 1/4" trowel? Also, is it necessary to fill in the sides with 1/2 pieces if it will be covered with trim?
@zackcraftedАй бұрын
Hi! This installation was awhile ago but I typical use a 1/4” x 1/4”. Anything bigger it makes a mess with squeeze out I find. And no need to fill where baseboard will cover! But, if it’s too close, like an 1/8”, I’d just recommend doing it for peace of mind

Great job mate, the hood comment has prevented me from making an expensive mistake on this one. This is the kind of review we need for every product! Sick of over produced sponsored videos reeling off a fact sheet with a fully grown man pulling an idiot face in the thumbnail.
@zackcraftedАй бұрын
Thanks! Glad it was helpful and informative for your choice. I hear ya on how most reviews are these days too, mostly just a product overview, and a regurgitation of what’s in the description on the brands website. Almost been 10 years now of owning, and I’d say everything still holds true from this original review. I do like the down/g-1000, combo. The fit is to snug in the chest area, the hood is designed nicely but can’t hear a thing if I wear it. The feathers have started to slip, and there are some cold spots now. But overall I’m happy with it.. I just had to get another actual winter coat haha

The Milwaukee will turn off on you after a certain amount of time, the Dewalt is ready to go as soon as the trigger as pulled. Milwaukee won’t sell you parts to repair their gun, DeWalt will. Both nail guns are fantastic but getting up on a ladder on a high ceiling for whatever and not having the gun ready is a pain in the ass. Either way they both blow Makita nailers out of the water.

man you should have used the orange schluter membrane for the tile, we sell it at lowes and its LEAGUES better than your ready set

This is done incorrectly. Should be using the orange underlay to avoid cracking. The underlay costs more than the tile but you only do it once.
