@robalexander8065 No question, not forgetting Malcom Eynon, David Miles, Andy Cartelidge and others. I know I'm not from that generation, but I feel very happy to have discovered them through DW announcements on DVD special features when I was younger!
@robalexander806519 күн бұрын
@@RVPMatt123 The three you have mentioned, plus the likes of Mike Gamble, Bruce Hammell, Charles Nove and Richard Straker, were often heard introduced 70s and 80s Who and many other BBC shows of the era. Andy Cartledge was particularly familiar as the main announcer on Children's TV before the era of the Broom Cupboard.

I wonder if the continuity announcers wrote their introductory spiel themselves? Apart from Part One, it's pretty nondescript. I'd prefer a simple, "And now Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred star in part two of the Doctor Who adventure---Silver Nemesis." Thanks for sharing, all the same.
@robalexander8065Ай бұрын
Not necessarily. There is an example out there of the same short script for an upcoming episode of Bergerac, which followed Who in 1989, being used by BBC1 in London, Wales and Scotland. Though I imagine BBC1Network Control wrote it.

Always wondered if fans were slightly disappointed by Silver Nemesis, an anniversary episode - what with it being a normal Cyberman story :)
@That_Random_BlokeАй бұрын
I was 11 in 1988. The show was so badly regarded by the press and BBC at the time that this season even happening (and the relative positivity around it) felt like a breath of fresh air. So no, not a massive disappointment.
@TheWillHadcroftАй бұрын
The core themes worked for me back in 1988 (I was 18) and I thought Lady Peinforte was especially good throughout. But I found the skinheads embarrassing and the American millionaire lady more annoying than amusing (and very obviously shoehorned in simply because the actress was in the UK). I tended to regard Remembrance of the Daleks as the actual anniversary special.
@Faulty720Ай бұрын
@@TheWillHadcroft when I was younger I always thought remembrance of the daleks was the anniversary episode with coal hill school and the 4th wall break (the TV showing BBC TV introducing doctor who) etc....

The only comments that are here so far are complaining about gender identity politics in Doctor Who. You were late to the ragebait festivities when it was airing sweeties! I thought some of Russell's writing in this new series was lazy, as it always has been to some extent. (Deus Ex Machinas, plot holes, fobbing off fans after a built up mystery), but I did really enjoy Ncuti's first series. Complaining about identity politics now when it was always present (isn't this the show you love?) isn't going to get it cancelled for you any faster. Shove off!

And it's went down the drain since then don't get me wrong but the show lost its spark ever since they introduced a woman doctor and then a LGBQ doctor it's time they went back to old school or just end doctor who altogether

my mother and bisexual sister stopped when Bill was introduced. To quote my sister "oh shut up, you dont need to go on about being gay every bloody week. We get it, you're gay. F-ing hell." I stuck it out for Jodie, even with the whole "for every cis white person who doesnt watch it, two stunning little girls will watch it" interview she gave for times magazine. Lost interest by the third episode. Returned when Tennant and Tate came back and left by the 10 minute mark. The Jason stuff, the constant pronoun stuff, I have enough of that at work. And Cutie Gatwa, lasted one episode. Him making a sexual joke to police "I just got snow manned" (a gay bukkake) in the christmas episode when a day prior he said in a interview the show is "specifically aimed at children" was the first red flag. I tried to watch the finale but just kept laughing at him crying and trying to look mad.

even my bisexual sister hates Doctor Who now. Its soo funny, she was going on for years how we need a gay character in Doctor Who *cough* jack *cough* and then Bill Potts came along and she HATED her. And when the trans Jason person was in the special when Tennant returned, she was F-ing at the screen. I laughed and had to leave after 10 minutes, i get enough pronoun lectures at work, i don't need it by a company who keep being caught hiring nonces (Garry Glitter, Jimmy Saville, Rolph Harris, Hugh Edwards, Philip Scofield, Stuart Hall.... just to name a few)

It's strange he didn't mention the over representation of LGBQ and the under representation of white men. You do realise, you live in Britain, and not Nigeria? It's almost like he thought 'If I tell them the whole truth, nobody would watch but queers and blacks'! Do you remember in 2005 when he said 'Doctor Who is for everyone'? Now it's 'Doctor Who is not made for you, so don't bother watching'.
@AzguardMikeАй бұрын
2005 we had pansexual captain jack, we had a gay WW2 officer in the gas mask zombie episode, we had Clara saying she made out with a woman (Magicians Apprentice opening), even later on we had lesbian lizard woman and her wife, lesbian muslim Yaz, apparently Sato (the asian woman) in Torchwood is bisexual according to their wiki, River Song is bisexual or pansexual, Matt Smith's doctor implied who had a boyfriend and a robotic lover, Canton the 3rd (Impossible Astronaut) had a gay black boyfriend when racism and homophobia were ripe in America. I heard a rumour that the next companion is going to be a gay black trans actor, meaning the main cast will tick every DEI box and be 100% black and queer. As you said, its now "Doctor Who is not made for YOU so don't watch it" which is what Cutie Gatwa said in that interview in the paper early this year. I'm done with Doctor Who. The last straw was RTD attacking fans for being upset that Davros is no longer wheelchair bound, changing it so he can walk because it offended RTD. He had a problem with Davros being handicapped as he saw it as making wheelchair users look evil. Well F U Russel. For years i've been going out as Davros in my wheelchair trick or treating with my little nephew as a Delek (all be it a cheap Dalek costume) but now, RTD is essentially saying I'm evil for being disabled.
