Thank you! It’s really easiest if you just take every single piece off and redo it. It’s like a new boat but at a fraction of the cost. The one part that I did not replace was the transom, but that was a fall/winter project. It is now a right now project because the transom snapped in half down at Boca Grande the other day when we hit something submerged in the channel and broke it in half and left the engine dangling in the water. Thank goodness for Sea Tow. More videos to come!

DON'T DO THIS TO A SOFTENER! The filter you are adding the H2O2 to is an air draw filter, typically with catalytic carbon (not softener resin beads). This is important as adding peroxide to your softener resin can destroy it. The air draw filter is designed to oxidize the sulfide by trapping air inside the top of the filter which acts as an oxidizer when the water enters the top of the filter. Peroxide is a very strong oxidizer and will help clean the carbon a little. However, these filters should be serviced about once per year as there is a venturi type injector inside the head of the control valve that gets clogged. It will need to be cleaned from time to time to keep the filter drawing air as it should.
@RandomlyAwkward1
@RandomlyAwkward1 4 күн бұрын
Thank you very much for the detailed information. I was taught by the person that installed the softener that this is the correct procedure for my softener. I will double check as to whether this is harmful or not.

I thought the plastic view bowl and drain was only used on outboard engines and not to be used in inboard applications due to cracking and fire hazard.
@RandomlyAwkward1
@RandomlyAwkward1 23 күн бұрын
That’s interesting and a valid point. This is the first time I have heard this, but it makes sense. No issues so far and the plastic bowl seems to be very heavy duty. I like the idea of a clear bowl to be able to visually monitor the fuel/water separator. I’m going to research this further and if not suggested, I’ll change it back to the metal filter. Thanks!

Thank you! We paid 18k for the boat, but it had a new Mercruiser 350MPI and Bravo 3 (still under warranty) on it when we bought it, which is how much those two items cost originally. The electronics (Garmin 1243 xsv MFD, Radar, all new wiring , lighting, switch panels, NMEA 2000 network, Flatscreen TV, Refrigerator, AC, etc...probably another 10k, The interior was done by my wife, but the cushion foam, vinyl, and thread to sew was expensive...maybe 3k. The Bimini was done by a local guy who is very good and that was around 3k with the boots to cover them. The real savings is learning how to do everything ourselves and the satisfaction of knowing that we know how to fix things in the future. Cheaper to buy a new boat? Not even close to the price of a new boat...but we wouldn't trade the experience for anything. We also just re-did a 32 year old pontoon boat and it's just like new now. We paid $1,500 for the boat and trailer and then basically threw everything away and started over. Maybe 8-10k into that one but it parks right nevxt to the 50k pontoons on the sandbar and the beer is just as cold, plus ours has a bullet hole in the side of the fencing, which is kind of gangster!

I bought another that did not fit, but if you send me an email at [email protected] and send a picture of yours, maybe we can get lucky and match it up. If it fits, you can have it...just pay for the shipping. If you are in the US, there is a great resource that I use in Grand Rapids, Michigan called Van's Sport Center.
