I've been using the suggested CRANE as an opener, but I swear I have better luck with STEAL or SLATE.

I tried CRANE once or twice early on but settled on SLATE and STALE. One hit in another version, and then the other hit in Wordle after I switched. Now I use STEAL, and I've settled in doing only the official Wordle version of this puzzle type.

I've enjoyed watching you play these! Just a tip: When you see a lot of words that don't have any semantic similarity like you have here, chances are there's some wordplay involved. Very common ones include words starting or ending with other words (like today's), homophones, and situations where you add, remove or change letters to make new words. Keep at it! Eventually you'll start to pick up on them pretty easily.
