This must be incredibly rare- did they ever play this live before or after this?

This is the late ‘78 version, if I’m not mistaken. From the first recording sessions for the L.A. Light Album. Criteria studios in Miami (home of the Bee Gees). The _original_ original version is from a ‘74 demo that Brian sings on. One of his last vocal recordings before he wrecked his vocal cords with alcohol, cocaine, and cigarettes. As much as I love the demo, I’ve gotta say that this is the superior version. I’ll never understand why they never released this, at least as a standalone non-album single. With the exception of “Good Timin’” (another one that was originally written and recorded in 1974), this absolutely annihilates anything on the Light Album.

Nice, thanks. I'm looking, still, for a proper video of the Diamond Dogs tour. It marked another corner at a time when it was hard to corner Bowie. The tour opened in Ottawa, I believe, where it worked out some kinks in the production, which was very big like Broadway; multi-level. The ropes to swing down weren't working but the chair which extended over the audience was. None of the videos on here claiming to be from that tour are showing the theatrical stage-craft, but my 16 yr. old self and friends travelled by multiple vehicles to get there from Kingston and we experienced it. And we had to get there early, so we had to wait a long time in the mezzanine during a summer heat/humidity wave, with a hundred or more others, until ONE door was opened, everybody rushed thru, I almost lost my left arm, it was open-seating so every one who got thru the one-door intact rushed, again, to grab the metal chairs and slide them/pack them closer to the stage. We ended up about 10th row and when the chair came down, from the stage, Bowie's shoes were about 10 feet away, where he sang 'there's a place down at the end where I can meet you and your friend', from that chair, I thought he was talking to me about the coffee shop just out on Bank Street. signed, a fan

She had an horror of rooms, she was tired, you can't hide beat When I looked in her eyes, they were blue but nobody home Well, she could've been a killer if she didn't walk the way she do And she do She opened strange doors that we'd never close again She began to wail jealousy's scream Waiting at the lights, know what I mean Scary monsters, super creeps Keep me running, running scared Scary monsters, super creeps Keep me running, running scared She asked me to stay and I stole her room She asked for my love and I gave her a dangerous mind Now she's stupid in the street and she can't socialise Well, I love the little girl and I'll love her till the day she dies She wails Jimmy's guitar sound, jealousy's scream Waiting at the lights, know what I mean Scary monsters, super creeps Keep me running, running scared Scary monsters and super creeps Keep me running, running scared Scary monsters and super creeps Keep me running, running scared Scary monsters and super creeps Keep me running, running scared Scary monsters and super creeps Keep me running, running scared Scary monsters and super creeps Keep me running, running scared

If they had just put some reverb on the group backing vocals and Dennis’ lead like they did on Brian’s falsetto….

Back in the 80's The Beach Boys would play after a SD Padres game once a year. I went in 1982, one year before Dennis died. He was a mess that day. He had to be led up onstage and they didn't mic his kit because they had another drummer playing. He had on a pair of cut off jeans and looked like a homeless person.
@gerrydooley9517 ай бұрын
I was at that show and had binoculars and I dispute your comment. Dennis walked up to the stage on his own, and his drum kit was mic'd and Mike Kowalski played along side him. The way he dressed was typical Dennis during that period. People started to exaggerate how bad Dennis's physical appearance was from about 1981 -1983, his death. He was still a pretty food looking guy at the time of his death but yes ,the drinking was taking it's toll

@@gerrydooley951 I'm not exaggerating anything, fool....I doubt you were there. You couldn't miss him, cut off jean shorts and no shirt, he looked like a homeless beach bum. Sorry if reality burst your bubble.

This almost feels like David Jones performing as David Bowie. David is so playful here, less concerned with the art and more with having fun. I saw him like this once during the Sound & Vision tour. Belew walked out onto this projection from the stage and while he was out there soloing, Bowie had the curtain closed. When Belew turned around, he was locked out. He started knocking on the curtain and looking back nervously at the audience, which was going crazy with laughter and applause. The curtain rose and Bowie was standing there, grinning at him like the Devil himself. The affection he had for Belew was just emanating from him like an aura. That was my favorite moment from a fantastic show.
