Idk about all this. What about the swamp fox in the south? Francis Marion? I think those guys made a difference with the long rifle. Not to mention, accuracy is pretty damn important. when you're running an extra 50 to 100 yards before you get a shot or clash with the enemy, that can make a difference. I'm not saying the rifles turned the tide in a massive way but I believe that long rifles would have made a difference. Wasn't Ferguson shot off his horse by one of these rifles? Not to mention, these people hunted with these rifles to survive and live day to day. You gotta give credit where credit is due..... A couple of things though I agree with the arguement. The East India Besses were no way as good as there predecessors. And in battle not factoring in stress and fear the amount of smoke was insane. I mean in larger engagements you not be able to see your enemy at 50 yards, so how can accuracy be measured under such conditions. One of the problems with earky mass production was making a barrel which the bore is true. A quote from a British officer exists about this. Also powder quality. At 50m with my well made replica Bess I have no problem hitting a dinner plate size target. But it takes some familiarity with the weapon first. Besses have no iron rear sight, I found out if I eye the barrel down the side lining up its angle to that of the target this helps. I am right handed so right for the lefties. The gun is set as best I can in line with target and then I check if the barrel needs to come up or down.

Americans have always prided themselves with their marksmanship. Daniel Morgan's troops could put your lights out at 250 yards and that's documented.
