This was nice! I have pulled both my boys from public school for specific reasons. This was a great perspective! Thank you for sharing! Looking forward to what you have chosen for next year! I really struggled finding math for my boys but finally settled on teaching textbooks for both. We did the free trial and my boys loved it. I have set the settings where the scratch pad is not able to be used and also turned off the option to skip practice problems just because I know my boys 😂! However, I am also a big believer that pen and paper for math is critical! We will print out the harder problems and I'll have them work the problem out on the paper available to print through teaching textbooks. ❤

Hi There! We did teaching textbooks for 6th grade math. I agree that hands on math with paper for working out problems is absolutely necessary. Teaching Textbooks wasn't deep enough for my son with the instructions, although he liked the functionality of it. It was what we needed for 6th grade and that year, but we've had to try other options for these upper grades. I hope it works well for you and your boys. I applaud you for taking them out of public school. It is an adjustment for them and for you, but I don't think you will regret it. Just seek out support from community homeschoolers when/if you need it, because we all do!

💯% Denison Algebra is the best thing to happen to our homeschool! It really is life changing. My seventh grader did Pre Algebra this year got 100 on almost every test. Ended the year with a 99 average! Mr Denison explains everything so well, has fun songs to remember tips on how to solve problems, and is engaging and funny. They watch a video, pause it to work on some problems, Mr Denison goes over it then you do the assignment. The solutions manual has all the answers written out exactly as they should be solved and also have solutions videos. I highly recommend it! My son will be doing Algebra 1 next year, and my daughter is so excited to start pre algebra!

So definitely IEW doesn't work for everyone and that's totally ok but I will say, if I'm understanding you right and this was your first year using it, it's actually super important to start with the first set, year 1 level A. I started my 7th grader on that one based on the recommendations directly from customer service of IEW, and it was the right choice even though I was worried about the "grade levels" they were giving for it. If you don't start at the beginning for IEW, that will definitely be rough. Just an observation - but there's lots more great options out there to choose from.

Hi, with the editing, the underlining of the errors in the incorrect sentence - does it tell the student how to do that? From glancing at this video, and pausing it seems, capital letter errors are double underlined? I see some words with 3 lines underneath. Is this explained how to show errors? Thanks so much,
@shinebrighthomeschool5785
@shinebrighthomeschool5785 Ай бұрын
Yes in the teacher's manual it does explain more on what symbols to use for certain grammatical errors, but if you are already used to using another kind of form, I would think you could always change it to what works for you. But the directions are really quite simple if you have the teacher's manual and you explain to your student. Once you get started and get into a flow, your student/s should be able to do some of it on their own and you can just check it after they are done. Hope this helps.

We started IEW Structure and Style in 4th grade with boy of our boys. I would say in listening to you talk about the struggles from this year, it sounds like a heart issue not a curriculum issue. Getting to the root of why he's giving you push back would be key in being successful and having good relationships. Thank you for sharing. We haven’t used anything from IEW yet. I was interested to learn and understand more about fix it when you said you can go into the program deeper, I’d love to know what you mean and what’s activities that would entail. How do you use it to the max? I’ve only heard you look for the things to change and then edit and write the sentence below.
@shinebrighthomeschool5785
@shinebrighthomeschool5785 Ай бұрын
Yes, you do have one sentence up to a few to correct each lesson. It isn't overwhelming for the workload. The teacher's guide gave more to teach on if needed. In the videos which we got for part of the program, it just focused on the writing and composition and not the grammar side. So the teacher's manual for Fix It Grammar has more teaching if you feel like it is necessary. It more focuses on the parts of speech and where and what is appropriate to use. If you watch my full video that looks inside IEW/Fix it Grammar, it may give you a bit more insight. Hope this helps you! Let me know if you have more questions. 😊

We used this curriculum this year. It was great! I used it for my 7th grader and 8th grader. My 7th grader is very science minded and did well. My 8th grader is the opposite and not very science-y. But she kept up and still got an A. Yes, it is heavy but they both got very high in standardized science testing. I read the text to them aloud each class which took about 45 min a day, 4 days a week. We also rented the accompanying videos which took an average of 10-15 min a day. If we planned for the experiments ahead of time then an hour per class period was perfect. We also bought a pre-packaged experiment kit from Nature's Workshop which helped us be prepared for the experiments. We ended up skipping Module 14 since it wasn't really relevant to the rest of the book and there was no test. A very thorough and great text which I would recommend! But we like textbooks.

I have 2 emerging 8th graders in the 24/25 school year. I have one boy who has ADHD and absolutely despises writing, LOL. He hates IEW, but we are going through it slowly and I am allowing him to dictate to me or type up all his work, which seems to help. I also have a girl who is almost complete opposite of her brother. School for her is no big deal she gets going and is done fairly quickly with no complaining.
