Great questions . I will be definitely asking these. I am doing a destination wedding at San Andres island in Colombia. I would like to know what questions to ask so I can find out that they are not cheating me or making me overpay. I very well know that the money currency benefits me bc it quadruples 1:4 and that after Covid the island hasn’t recovered and it is down 75% in tourism making our 150 ppl wedding a great opportunity for them. Plus we are having 3 top Spanish singers performing . How would you guide this conversation?

In Spain it is common for the guests to pay for their seat at the table.

For planners who charge by %, can you explain what vendors this covers ? For a destination wedding the planners don’t help with travel, hotel blocks or any other logistics associated but that’s a huge part of a destination wedding budget… how about things like your dress and accessories, or a rehearsal dinner if the planner isn’t being asked to organize that.. those items take up a huge chunk of the wedding budget.. is there a list of specific vendors a planner would or would not take a % from?

Girl you truly are out of touch w reality & the majority of the population here & what we make/can afford. Smh this whole video is sooo off & anyone thinking of watching-DON’T. This chick is absolutely wrong & greedy as hell
@djjones7039

$8000 is absolutely RIDICULOUS & you charge WAAAY too much for what your job actually entails. Smh if $4,800 wasn’t nearly enough money for you to be paid to “feel like you’re contributing to your household”. I’d guess that your monthly bills/expenses etc. must be over the freakin top if you feel that way. & you probably are into top designers and top of the line high end items & should definitely set a WAY LOWER monthly budget & ACTUALLY STICK TO IT!!! Your job is a lot of small details that all equal to a wedding. But your job isn’t necessarily HARD or difficult per se… there’s pretty much a set list that each wedding thrown requires & a few other add ons/different things each engaged couple wants to add or change. But for the most part each wedding likely will require catering/bar/venue/DJ/florist/etc. Not hard to stick to a basic list & check it off as you & the couple go… I’d absolutely NEVER EVER pay anything NEAR what your beginning fee was. Absolute rip off IN MY OPINION!! If you have a great group of detail oriented & smart/patient/caring bridesmaids/a few caring family members that wanna help you out.., you likely won’t even need a wedding planner if you have a small group of people helping y’all out. Sorry to say 🤷‍♀️

Interesting talk, although like others mentioned not a fan of the assumptions you are making for other planners, there are so many factors at play when setting price such as experience, region, peak season etc. that such broad statements reduce your overall impact.

I set up tented weddings nearly every other weekend throughout the year, and this overwhelmed even me. Rest assured, if you call an experienced tent company to have a tented wedding, they are going to take care of 90% of these concerns for you. This is all very helpful information, but brides and grooms, don't let this overwhelm you! Also, I would say that tent flooring is a heavy splurge and definitely not a requirement unless you are in a flood zone or on a hillside. This will cut the cost significantly.

If you're not going to have tent flooring, would you recommend to alert women who may want to wear heels?
@sterlingbrooks5495
@sterlingbrooks5495 9 ай бұрын
@@noelmilleryoga5993 You could always do a quick walk around the proposed tent site in heels on a dry day and see if the ground is too soft for heels. The ground will stay dry under your tent, so I don't foresee any problems there, and I've never had someone complain about that before . You could also consider a walkway to your tent in case it does rain.

Hey EXCELLENT VIDEO, Thank you so much. However, if I may add something for people who haven't seen this video yet, I'm coming from the catering world. While you might wonder what that has to do with weddings, on the contrary, it is catering that has to keep food warm, when things aren't going well, so we do have a keen sense about some things. But might I add, when asking an event/wedding planner how many events they do in a year...... there are some other things to consider. Different companies have different structures and systems. I work for one company that can only manage 4 events in a week, I work with another company that can manage 9 events in a day. Both are correct. What I recommend you listen for instead.... is a clean confident answer. A shoddy vendor who spreads themselves too inappropriately thin... will trip and stumble all over their answer and explain and validate problems and situations, you didn't ask about. A good vendor, or planner will give you confident answers, with unapologetic authority regardless of what their numbers are.

I really appreciate this video, Valerie. As someone who works a lot with data, your comments about inaccurate wedding data on the internet is very interesting. What do you think about the American Wedding Study published by Brides the Knot Real Weddings Study? Do you find the info in those studies and others like them align to your professional experiences?

I am converting my one acre back yard into a venue, adding many of the elements you mentioned in your video, it is alot of expenses and thought to bring it all together but once its built, it will be a great asset... We even purchased 3 smaller 20x30 tents so far and a bunch of tables and chairs and building a beautiful covered stage area ... Thanks for your insights..
