First time I ever played I was 10. I made a party of 4 fighters (turned to knights) I went thru the whole game over the course of a year or 2 made it all the way to Chaos. Couldnt beat him. I couldnt keep up enough healing to take him down and this was in like 1990 so I didnt know about the peninsula of power and I was a kid so I didnt understand grinding. If I was smart I woulda had 3 fighters and a white or red mage.

First place, smashed it! I think driving is one of the areas where a controller actually beats out a keyboard and mouse, For me it just feels a lot more comfortable and intuitive. I really enjoy the driving in this game, especially since the 2.0 update where they reworked the driving mechanic to diversify the cars a little bit, simulating different drivetrains, torque, grip etc. so now every vehicle doesn't feel the same. But you went from hating stealth to being able to stealth entire missions using only takedowns, so I'm expecting great things from your driving as well :P

You and I have different feelings on the murderer I guess. I'm no theist either but to me it really seems like he regrets what he did and he's changed. Btw is it just youtube being weird or do NPCs people in cars become really dark grey?

Great walkthrough! I played the game for the first time 6 months ago or so (with the same party configuration as you lol). I tried to play mostly blind but ended up getting stuck a few times and had to look things up. I definitely didnt encounter every monster but I did know about the warmech and made sure to fight him. I'm too much of a young whippersnapper to have played these older games when they came out, but they have a certain charm to them that I really enjoy. I'm not really in a position where I can play many games right now, so I'm glad that you created this walkthrough. Thanks a lot and well done!

Yeah luckily the damage over time effects - fire, toxic, bleeding etc - count as nonlethal, so you successfully subdued that cyberpsycho. Also I think the missing Valentino boyfriend she was searching for might have been the other cyberpsycho you subdued in an earlier episode - the one that got kidnapped and implanted by Maelstrom. So assuming cyberpsychosis can be reversed, you may have given that story a happy ending :)

i played this game completely blind about seven or eight years ago. Four fighters. No game overs, but I panicked whenever I'd get one guy instakilled and then just backtrack out of the dungeon to revive and try again. Almost everything did 1 point damage to all four characters, and I never had to grind since I never knew where to go in the first place. Having any other character felt like it would be harder, not easier, even against bosses except maybe at the very end of the game.

I definitely think you'd have had an easier time getting through some of these missions if you'd kept a power Handgun handy, you can't put suppressors on tech or smart weapons. Pre-update cyberpunk let you put a suppressor on a revolver and it was suuuper cheesy

V is looking pretty bad ass with the LBE vest, just needs the hot pink booty shorts to make a comeback and the outfit will be *chef's kiss*. Maybe you figure this out later in the playthrough, but in the gigs that require you to kill someone, you can take them down non-lethally and it slightly alters the ending of the gig. It's pretty cool

Hey you did it! That was quite a final battle, got pretty tense and man that HP bar just did NOT want to move. I think the ending was not so much as sequel hook as simply a satisfying conclusion to the story, and sort of a reward for watching the credits through to the end. It's funny that he brings a robot companion from dark dragon's lair, I guess even in retirement, people are still irresistibly drawn to following Jrupitus around. Nice series mate. It was fun hearing you gush about this game, and all your knowledge of behind the scenes stuff was very impressive.

Me and my brother got up to choas with FMWB and our cousin overwrote our save game before we could grind up to be able to beat him. I was like 10 years old maybe. Ever since then that has been my go to party if I am playing to beat the game. I feel I owe it to them.

When i first played FF1 on the wii shop channel, i was mad that the fighter was so overpowered that he almost broke the game. Then i played dnd and learned that the fighter is one of the worst classes in multiple editions and i didnt feel so bad lol

If i found a 'surprise huge amount of spiders' in my recording room, I would simply Level 3 Blaze the room, then Egress and never go in there again

I think the moon stone might have been put there earlier in development for a related quest. Perhaps Zylo's recruitment was supposed to happen later in the story, but it got moved forward. Perhaps there was another event that required a moon stone but it was scrapped or rewritten. And in either case, they then forgot to delete this instance of the moon stone. As for why it's placed within the scenery and not on an empty tile, who knows

OH YEAHHHH it's the bridge battle, this is the episode I've been waiting for. Many good and bad memories of this fight. The gimmick makes it feel like the first battle where you actually have to put some heavy thought into strategy

my favourite is probably Tao. the mages in this really steal the show, especially when you start unlocking the higher level spells. And maybe her secret costume has something to do with it

I know speed runners only care about hte original, but how does this change in the Origins / Pixel Remaster releases? I think the main thing is just that they fix all the stat bugs / make nonworking spells function like they should, but I would assume that would make the black mage a lot more viable and make the white mage significantly less sucky too.

you know if you transform into the hen then leave manarina, travel all the way back to guardiana, go to the castle, walk behind the king's throne, face it and search, talk, search, talk, search, search, all while still in hen form, a chest will appear in the middle of the room that contains a one-hit kill sword that never misses

You count out the blackbelt because it makes it hard to use the most powerful weapons BUT you can't use the most powerful weapons without a blackbelt. End level blackbelt's fists are easily more powerful than a fighter with the masamune.

Here's an easy class guide. You need a Tank, Healer, and DPS. Warrior/Fighter/Knight is the only tank, so you should always take at least one, and make him leader. Healer is Red Mage or White Mage. You will need to take one of them too. Red mages is generally better, due to being more versatile, but white mage is great too, especially in versions of the game with more MP. DPS doesn't really matter, but for Variety, it's Black Mage, Black Belt, Thief. You should take one but is not necessary. They have lower defense. Black Mage has massive damage to all enemies, but uses mp, Black Belt does massive damage to 1 enemy, and is a great boss killer. Thief sucks at first, gets better later on, and is of varying usefulness depending on the version of the game. Choose whoever you want for 4th member. The only other rule to follow, is never bring two White mages, as your DPS will be too low. Anything else goes as long as you have 1x warrior and 1x Red or White Mage. This means if you want to have only 2 different classes, your options are either 3 warriors 1 white mage, or any combination of Warrior and Red Mages, as long as you have at least 1 each. Infact these parties can be quite good.

I've loved FF since it first came out. My first party when I loaded up the NES cartridge in the 80's was fighter, monk, black mage, and white mage. After a few tries, I prefer fighter, fighter, red mage, black mage.

While playing the game I "searched" in a couple random dead ends and suspicious places, thinking "surely there might be something here" and after never finding one, I stopped doing this. But really, WHO was expected to find these in a casual playthrough?

Will you do a version of this for pixel remaster I belive it had the int bug fixed.

I did a playthrough years back with 4 black belts. Chuck, Bruce, Jet, Jean. When they became Masters they killed everything in one or two hits. 😂

Still my favourite. I will play it every couple of years, and always play the original. I like that you have to think about inventory management. It is a shame about bugs, and the spells that don’t work

I think fighter, fighter, black belt, red mage is probably optimal. Two tanks are good for second slot aggression. Second best, solo white mage. Nice analysis!

Totally got my butt kicked in '93 trying to play this on NES. 11 years later I beat it on GBA with two fighters and two red mages. Last year did a playthrough on steam with a fighter, Monk, white mage, black mage. Fun game, think I will play it again soon.

Mega late to the party, but dont the upgrades classes have a severe weakness to instant death spells due to a bug? Makes avoiding some of the upgrades (white mages specifically) worth considering

I've never tried it before, but I think next time I will go with: Fighter Thief Red Mage White Mage
