I'm really enjoying this series. Only thing is that the map is blocking the screen and you are missing quite a few juicy items. You can move the map over to the top left hand side. Hope this helps. Cheers from the UK and bringing back great memories

Hey! I might be a latecomer here, but what a playthrough! I played FF1 on my phone but couldn’t complete it without googling, even though I tried not to. It is really hard, and there are many pieces of information you need to beat the game, which you can really easily miss. I can’t imagine how challenging it was for kids to actually beat this game back when it first came out. But I find this game quite charming. Modern games easily surpass this game in every technological aspect, but I think this lack of sophistication allows players to use a decent amount of imagination, which actually helps them to get immersed in the experience. It’s very hard for gamers to have this kind of experience nowadays because everything is served on a silver platter and choosing older games over newer ones isn’t a rational choice most of the time, but for people back then, this game was the most advanced technology they could get to experience, and I can’t imagine how much satisfaction they got when they beat the game without the internet, without youtube, and when the only reliable sources of information were rumors, your friends, and expensive strategy guides. You did an amazing job sharing your playthrough with us. You could say you are really good at playing this game! 😂 Seriously, you knew everything that I didn’t notice on my first play of this game, so it was informative as well as entertaining. Every tiresome grinds were cut so I could enjoy only the interesting parts. (Wish you cut your healing sessions after battles, though. But it’s a very tiny complaint from me.) What was most enjoyable for me was your enthusiasm about this game. The reason I started watching this game is obviously I like this game too, and people who think this game is a masterpiece is really up to the task, and you are definitely one of them! I enjoyed because you enjoyed, so you really did an excellent job sharing the fun FF1 has to offer. Sadly this game is very old and definitely is a niche, so you might not get many views and likes, but you definitely deserve every single one of them and I would still say you are underrated. It must have involved a sizable amount of hard work to make this playthrough but you did it anyway so that people can enjoy it together. I really thank you for doing so, and I’m looking forward to watching more of your videos too! P.S. I’m Japanese and I’m surprised that you seem to have a good understanding of Japanese and knew the interesting differences between English and Japanese versions. It would really help viewers understand the nuances that can easily get lost in the translation. I appreciate that too!

Actualy Im glad you mentioned that it is a bit annoying... the need to nearly have an university degree for being good at this... Because Im the old boomer who played this back than and even didn't play the last act😂 and did play as paladin and totaly screwed it because I didn't know all of the hidden undermath and leveled stupid auras all the time 😂 Yet it was sooo addictive and enjoyable that I still love it so much that I've been watching all this series of yours for last 14 days 😅😂😂

Bro, you're crazy wanting a second fighter over a monk/black belt. By level 10, when it's time to go to the Earth Cave usually the Black Belt is doing about 100 more damage than any Fighter and has a 5% critical rate. Since Monk Attack = Level x 2 and Critical Hit rate is also Level x2 their damage only goes up the more levels they gain. Also unarmed monks do twice as many hits as an armed monk. A monk with nunchaku doing 3 hits will do 6 hits unarmed. That's why their damage is so shocking. A level 50 monk will have 100 Attack and a critical rate of 50%. I think they're incapable of hitting the maximum of 8 attacks and can only get 6 but that's 12 hits unarmed and 24 hasted. Also white mages are hilarious because they can use fear to cause Chaos to abandon his world views and go into hiding and never show his face again.

Black Belt/Monk doesn't get that much worse. They take a hit in magic defense, but by this point in the game the player is finding equipment with resistances so magic defense doesn't matter as much. The damage formula for unarmed monk combat does get better allowing them to do even more damage, however. Black Belt damage should already be outpacing the Fighter damage by this point in the game so the Master's damage becomes ludicrous.

Watching your lets play has reinvigorated my love for this game, (it's never truly died, but Blizzard isn't the same company anymore!) and while you can get D2 LOD Classic running on Win 10/11, with some work, I decided to resurrect my Battle net account and pony up the cash for D2R, luckily it was on sale ang got it for just under £12 ($16). I've got it on my Switch, I feel while they did their best in trying to make it play with a controller, D2 is best played with a mouse and Keyboard, as the OG Blizzard Gods demand! I remember sinking countless hours into D2 as a kid, and just the music and sounds bring back fond memories for me! "Well Met Noble Paladin!"

Absolutely adored this. We had the Sega Smash Pack 2 growing up, and one day I got curious about the non-Sonic games that were on the disc. That was how I fell in love with the game and RPGs in general.

Replying to a really old video but lot of people sleep on black belt who has the best damage in the game once at an effective level, to the point that he can 1 shot Chaos at level 50 with a single casting of fast and temper.

If Square Enix/Nintendo re-released the first 6 Final Fantasy games as a box set on disc for Playstation, or cartridge sets for Switch, or even on the digital store for both, they'd sell millions. Release them just like this, exactly as they looked when they were first released. Then we wouldn't have to look for overpriced used copies online. Or, do Remake versions of all of them like FF:VII Remake

Most OP party is fighter, black belt red mage red mage. Two fast spells in one round kills enemies very quickly. Just about as good is fighter, black belt, thief and red mage. This is an end game good party tho. Most the game the thief sucks but equiped with masamune and a party with two fast spells per turn isn't too bad. I once beat the game with a fighter two red mages and a thief.....it was hard.

Not gonna lie. I didn’t know you could get ogres right outside matoyas cave. It was always down near the elf city that I farmed them after getting the ship. I wouldn’t want to run into them at this point bc even later they are tough.

It is weird how the "Gulug Volcano" track is actually introduced in Earth Cave.

Well I am aware this party is not optimal by any means, I love fighter, black belt, red mage, white mage

My party has always been: Fighter Thief Black mage White mage Once you get the class up, the knight and ninja have low level white and black magic respectively. Not to mention the ninja can equip some great physical gear.

The biggest fail in this party is is considering giving the Masamuse to a fighter when you have any mage class in your character. Try giving it to a White Mage and you will see the difference. That is what makes the Fighter/Black Belt/White Mage/Black Mage such a good party to take down Chaos.

I take it they fixed alot of the bugs in the later versions like pixel remake etc?

I just started playing the remix and boy howdy things have changed. The thief is actually good, the black mage's spells hit like a truck due to int working, and the red mage has taken a hit in that department due to the exact same reason. He's also taken a hit in healing due to the same reason, though that's not quite as important right now.

Main thing a Red mage is missing out on with level 8 spells is level 8 _slots._ LIFE is the same tier as FIR3 and CUR3. Having a level 8 slot to burn on healing would be _great_ since FADE and NUKE have such wide ranges that ICE3 deals comparable damage. Similarly, the endgame White mage is essentially extra potion slots. 9 CUREs is almost a 10% increase in (menu) healing available in ToF. The dungeons themselves are enemies in FF1, gobbling up your resources while you try to plunder them.
