A great Display! How do you put such a huge Manta away on your own, especially when you are using a lifter? I only have small Rays (8, 12 & 15m). I put them away in the way that Andrew Beattie showed (Bringing down a Maxi Ray). This really works well and once the Ray is upside down it is game over for the Kite. This does not work using a lifter though. So far I newer flew my Rays using a Lifter when I was alone. Bringing the Kites down was solved with manpower so far. One or two are holding the kites while I disconnect the Lifter and then turn the Ray upside down and continue as usual. How do you solve this when you are on your own? Do you wait for the evening to bring the wind down (and rely on that)? Do you have such reliable weather in your place ;) ? Thanks for sharing the Video!
@MichaelKSherman12 күн бұрын
Awesome question! Winds were reliably around 10mph, so when they dropped a bit, I was able to walk down the fish, which helped me get some leverage over the ray. I usually try to invert it. But this time the wind wasn't blowing hard and I just grabbed the pilot line and took the pilot down after getting the ray down.
@_plinse12 күн бұрын
@@MichaelKSherman Does inverting the Ray work when using a Pilot? I use the Pilot Line that is part of the bridle... Not so many people fly Rays here. The interesting thing is to learn from people handling Maxi Rays on their own. I am currently thinking about getting a 21m or 30m one. The actual thinking is simple 😉 I want the 30m but my brain tells me I should go for 21m for the handling. If I get the 21m and the handling is too easy, I will still want the 30m 😉
@MichaelKSherman12 күн бұрын
@_plinse I get it. All depends on the wi nd conditions. Easier to turn over when the wind is blowing than when it isn't

Love it. One question when packing how do you keep tail from tangling?
@MichaelKSherman12 күн бұрын
@TheTwistedintent the tail stuffs in. No additional care taken. There are lines throughout the tail. Packs and unpacks easily.

65 seconds into the video it seems you're lifting the Manta with both bridles. Did you have a second lifter on to get it up? If so how did you manage to get the second lifter down without pulling the manta to the ground? Im new to flying big softkites and I love watching your videos. Thanks for sharing.
@MichaelKSherman13 күн бұрын
@shbjo I released the pilot and held its line while inflating the Manta, then let it go, while keeping it straight by holding on.to the outer bridle and wingtip.

Amazing ! Do you do this alone? How long does it take to set up and take down?
@MichaelKSherman13 күн бұрын
@LeagueofLightians Hi, yes, I do, but often fly in festivals with friends. We help each other out. Displays can go up in 15 - 30 min. Stakes in, lines secured to straps and carabiners. Kites unpacked, and you're off to the races. Takes a bit longer to put everything away. Waited for the wind to taper off for a bit and got the Manta down fairly quickly.
