Shutting down the inner critic is a constant battle.

I try to do something everyday. Recently, my makers space has been mobile as my studio is upstairs and my old dog can’t go up the stairs anymore so I bought an Art Bin and placed items in the bin and “get to work” anywhere my dog is located.

My inner critic likes to tell me I need to have just the right supplies, pencil cases, etc. and in just the right order. I literally have so many supplies. I’m officially telling myself to shut up!👍❤️ Thank you!

Thank you so much. I think that dimension is why I gravitated toward using the watercolor pencils in this particular way.

This was a great video Eric! Have you moved to a more scripted format? Seems to be working. The video was paced well, and showed some classic tech's! Can't wait to see the next one.

Thanks! I did use a script with a teleprompter app. I find that when I wing it, I can go off on tangents, and it often takes longer than it should. Just trying to make some videos that are a bit more concise and straight forward. Hopefully it didn't come off to monotone, and I'm hoping I'll get more natural with it.

Thank you Eric! I see some artists randomly pre-paint their pages with inks or acrylic gouache, but I didn’t think about simply using my watercolor 🤦‍♀️. Are there any issues with the watercolor reactivating and lifting, or am I just overthinking it? I primarily use watercolor pencils, and water-soluble media like neocolor 2. I used to have TONS of stencils when I was into scrapbooking, but never really knew what to do with them and ended up giving them away. Recently, I tried using a paper doily that I brought home from a cafe as a stencil and that was pretty fun. 👍

There can be issues with the watercolor reactivating, but I've never found it a big problem. The same can happen with watercolor pencils and watercolor crayons. I do use Derwent's Inktense Paints and Pencils a lot, and they are less likely to lift if they're completely dry. I love basic stencils for creating patterns and textures, and of course letter stencils are great for add in words and text to pieces and pages. Hope you give watercolor backgrounds a try!

I've used this technique when I was creating landscapes, but I did it blind. After, I'd make sense of what the lines represented. It was a great technique to break free from monotony. Defiantly a great technique, thanks for sharing Eric!

I tried this but when I journal I brain dump. Which means there's allot of writing. So I found that instead my art would occasionally creep into my written journal. Whereas I'd have a separate journal that began as a visual journal but landed up as more of an art journal.

I used to work in a mental health clinic and did this in my down time on colored post-its - neon were my favorite! I only had standard ball point pens, but the activity helped me keep my sanity honestly. I always figured it didn't really count as anything artsy, just something my anxious little mind did to keep me busy. Kinda forgot about those little things actually. Thanks for shining a new light on the activity! I just found your channel, and I'm looking forward to what comes next!
