I love Nears calm but focused demeanor. Mellos jealousy and pride is so childish and stupid. Near is one of few people able to catch Light but Mello over here acting like part 1 Boruto. I honestly believe he would've shot Near out of jealousy.

Sometimes I think Light could have manipulated Mellow into killing Near, and I don't think Near would ever kill Mellow, This could have been a perfect game to play here, Since both Near and Mellow hate each other so much

Near had no ill will towards Mello from the start. He was fine with the suggestion of working together with Mello. It was Mello that had such a complex/ego about being better.

This scene is so good. Two heirs, two prodigies fighting Kira, and the final competition between genius rivals. Near really doesn't deserve the hate he gets him and Mellow are both worthy successors. He probably had to pay an absurd amount of money to keep everyone quiet about Mellow he really wanted to work together. L won because he had faith his successors would solve the case if he died, Kira never trusted anybody, and killed everyone when they stopped being useful or were too burdensome to deal with.

I suppose it's just what he resorts to to be able to function properly. The same with how Ryuzaki sits in that specific posture he's known for, or how Near plays with his curls - it's just a nuance attributable to the character. Might even be a 100% cocoa bar, which I tried once (perfectly bitter, yet at the same time, the most cleansing foodstuff I've ever eaten in my life).

I'm not sure if Near banked on Mello adhering to a personal code of honor by acquiring his photograph and covering his identity. But I guess it doesnt change the fact that he protected Mello the best he could and gained intel for his effort.

I’ve always wondered why Mello cared so much about surpassing L. He’s the narrator of the BB murder case novel, so surely he knows the dangers of being obsessed with L and having an inferiority complex
