If you'd like to know what went wrong with the show, basically because DiC were being as scummy as possible, they lured the writers from Sonic SatAM back under the impression they'd be allowed to make a sequel to their old show, they rushed production like crazy with two episodes written, recorded and storyboarded every week (something not even 80's toy cartoons tried to do) and forced in musical numbers to get money from the royalties due to some union rule. Even weirder, despite the fact that DiC was partnered with Disney at the time to make the Inspector Gadget movie they never had this show air on a Disney channel, instead airing on syndication at like 6 in the morning, meaning that most kids would be asleep when it was on. Apparently Sega hates his show so much they forbade anyone from ever using the original characters from it ever again. It was also such a bad experience for the writers that they basically retired from writing. Sega and Yuji Naka really hated this show, they flat-out forbade the Sonic comic writers and future Sonic cartoons from ever featuring any of the characters created for it.

I know what episode the gifs in the first three minutes are from, now that I remember the voice acting was not any better lmao. The kicker was I somehow had a crush on Knuckles as a kid and I think thats the only reason I overlooked the "quality" at all.
