I was at this performance...You can tell this is from the 1969 Filmore West performance..His delivering vocals were so raw and like a lead guitar in those first performances. In 74 he was more refined and not as soulfully raw!!...Also, here you can tell his guitar is that hollow body fender telecaster, he played which had the most sustaining tones of any telecaster I've ever heard. In the 70's and after he's played with big hollow bodied Guild's, Gretch's, and Gibson's..

sounds like his voice completely breaks in the last line on "away from home" when he is about to go into that elongated exquisite howl from the recorded version....was anticipating an approximation of it live....no doubt he was fucked up...apart from that it sounds so good.

Terry Reid was one of the very first choices to be asked to sing for Led Zepplin. Can you imagine turning down Jimmy Page.

That's right,I can remember a section in Melody Maker around '68'.He would have taken the offer, but he was too busy with his own plans,he said to Page why don't you ask Robert Plant,or Steve Marriot.I think Plant was meant to be,and he was mates with Bonham, rest is.........

Thanks for taking time out to listen. I got a bit of stick with this one but I did try to change the angle of the song somewhat. Sometimes I hear a different vocal in songs that I cover (I haven't covered for a long time). Sometimes the music asks for something else like when I did an R&B version of Radiohead's Creep. The guitar just said Otis Redding.... Its all I heard... With this track it just felt like a rock ballad was right for it. You could call it a soft bon Jovi but I did get some stick for it. There is another version of this song on my channel I covered with more of a slant on my hero David Sylvian vocally and Nine Inch Nails. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. I haven't recorded much since the pandemic and me working through it all in the transport service but I plan to get back some time soon. Funny you mention Stevens.... Search out my colaberation in the group 'Pink Lemon Music'. We have a track called 'I promise you' which is inspired by his work. All the best Jx

Shush and enjoy ....written for you! Juste Joey Passing Precious Time Like a seasoned landscape The walls of home change slowly With the passage of time In the bedroom An unlit side-lamp stands To form a harsh silhouette Against a back-lit Xray Of ravaged, crumbling, bones Landmarks from the past Hang limply Silent reminders of times spent Of things good and bad But like all mementos They gather dust In the silence Open plan rooms With white walls Form a panoramic view Depicting my history For I am the walls And everything that hangs thereupon I am the creator of my own landscape The author of my own demise Outside I have created A quaint and pretty paradise A latch gate hangs invitingly On a matching picket fence The bushes and shrubs A wild array of colour and tones For this is no ordinary maison This is a poet’s home No question as to who resided here The pictures and the poems They tell it all For this is Poet’s End My final dwelling place Where Joey Joe and I Spent many hours Chewing the fat And passing precious time….. “Joey Joe McGuire” 31st August 2020 (especially for Justin)

Loved that you have picked this song to attach your words to. I am amazed how many listeners don't understand the difference and meaning in the words lightning and lightening. In this song the lightening takes you by surprise. Like it's a heavy weight lifted but not ready for... And overcome by.... Most people think its about something coming from the sky! Lol x
