One of the best jazz solo piano recording I’ve ever heard.

Timing should be internal. A good way to maintain pulse without an external clock is just tap your foot or rock the way a LOT of famous jazz pianists do. Metronomes really only have a place when playing much stiffer classical pieces that require rigidity in order to sound cohesive. When playing any music based off swing they are useless.

Improve is easy. Just make mistakes and try to correct them by making your way to the correct note.

Hints of Bitches Brew, Kilimanjaro, and In a Silent Way…but Novak simply owns this music with his unique style of drumming! Genius.

I miss this cat so much. 😢 He was my inspiration since I was a young teen. This tune puts me right back to sitting at a piano in a garage on a cold, rainy night listening to this the week the album was released almost 50 years ago.

Such a kind, graceful, sincere man. Met him and his lovely wife backstage in Ny when he presented his orchestral piece. The advice so pure- if you practice all the time: prior to using your imagination. ❤❤

RiP ROY AND CHICK. QUICK PERSONAL STORIES.Chick responded to a letter I sent him around 1977. He made a 12 year old drummer's day! I will never forget it. A dear friend of mine was lucky enough to reaquainte himself with Roy during the 2013 Jazz cruise. They hung for a bit before Roy hit...I consider myself blessed for both these memories. AND SO IT CONTINUES.

Was already a fan of the entire first electrik band, and this album in my opinion kept the bar high. RIP Mr Corea. Def made my reason for being a musician expand. This album and Eye of the Beholder never gets old.

This is exactly why the greatest Jazz players are not only musicians but also philosophers. If you've noticed, each time they're asked about something technical they always answer philosophically and uses metaphors to exhibit their point. Watch any interviews you can find and you'll see what I'm talking about. Jazz is more than just a language, it's a whole different philosophy in a musical form.

И все таки несмотря ни на что бог не оставляет никчемных людишек, и своей милостью посылает нам моцартов, бахов, бетховеных, а так же чиков, Херби, Оскаров и ещё много кого. Хотя мы этого совсем не заслуживаем.
