That's a very nice study! When you talked about that episode of being asked about what's the next movement, lots of insights came to my mind, including a Dwit Tchaguy. But that solution of applying a throwing technique really added something to my attention! GANSARANIDA!!! Thank you!

I especially love the joint lock interpretation of the supported elbow strike and the final movement as a setup to a shoulder throw. This is getting into the deeper meaning of martial arts forms -- what you see is not always what you get, and sometimes you have to fill in a few blanks to unlock workable applications.

It’s a great job what your doing. It’s my idea that karatekas are more aware of finding sense on their katas than we are in our poomsae. Taekwondo practicioners are more worried about kicking skills, but i dont think they are usefull on a real defense situation (i am talking about techniques like 360 kick). There are no many taekwondo players interested on the applicattion of poomsae in personal defense. And thats why many students fail, i think. It’s kind of boring repeating tha same pattern time after time without knowing what your doing and what it’s madre for. Teachers teach poomsae for you to take the test for the next belt, but they dont explain the real application. And thats a shame because it is, in my opinion, the central core of self defense.

Exactly, So many people dont know what they are actually doing during their way to blackbelt.. that's a problem which kukkiwon should take responsibility.

I completely agree with you but I have a question. Why do professionals then insist at doing the kicks towards the sky? I mean, it looks pretty because you’re doing the splits and you can look flexible but, youre not defending yourself , so is this wrong to do?
@artmscn2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for replying. And my opinion is poomsae nowadays is just a sport. They need something to make difference as to find out the champion.. so sky became the target.
@michaeljung43982 жыл бұрын
You could kick high, middle and low. When you do the poomsae, the target is the face or the chest. In real life, you decide the target. However, if you don't practice kicking high, you won't be able to kick the face in real life. Or the stomach.
