It's amazing how many people, like me, remember nothing but the ending from watching as a kid, and then try to find what movie it is on the internet when they are grown. It's been five years since I first described the ending on reddit and no one gave me an answer then, today I search again and saw a post of someone asked the exact same question a year ago and got the answer. As the top comment says, this side quest is marked complete. I guess this is what a good ending does, you always remember it.

I’m only now finding out what I originally watched wasn’t the theatrical ending. I couldn’t understand how Ash went from this to Ash vs Evil Dead. Makes so much more sense now that I’ve seen both endings.

This ending is cool if they made a sequel following this ending, but the theatrical ending is cool, because I like how he’s back at S mart just price tagging items and back to his mundane life. Then the deadite comes back and he shooter her with the lever action rifle. Then takes off the uniform to show the ash uniform underneath…..in my own way, I am king….hail to the king baby.
