If they would have just trimmed some of the fat this album would stand a lot taller but its amazing moments get pulled back down by a lot of mediocre ones. A shorter but tighter album would have been the way to go on this one.

I agree with Cone. As a bassist, i hate playing that same note progression or following the guitar in every song. So i like going high or doing a walk sometimes too just to add something different. Thats why guys like Matt Freeman or Mike dirnt are some of my favorite in punk rock/pop punk

Steveo hit the nail on the head here: so many bands completely lose fans by changing their core sound too much from album to album. That doesn't mean you can't still be creative (adding rims as he called it), if just means you don't abandon what got people hooked to begin with.

People like Deryck is what i love about the music world. I have such a love for music and ever since i started hearing Sum 41 i can hear the passion and work he puts in it. The first album i've heard from them is actually Underclass Hero and that will forever be my most prized favorite album because i felt the passion and love and work he put on it. The band changed i'll admit. From Dave leaving to Stevo leaving to recruting new guitarists drummers and to having Dave back. Truly, Deryck is the soul of the band. Without Deryck, Sum 41 would have never lasted so long and still produce such amazing music. I hope one day i get to be like Deryck never giving up and whenever he felt down music was his escape. I want to meet him and tell him thank you and to never stop playing, keep going for as long as his heart desires, even if the whole band breaks up and it's just him i'll still continue to support him. Forever a fan!!!

He's being a tool here, the bass sounds way better going an octave higher. Mark Hoppus does it a lot in Blink and it adds to the songs, like in Carousel. It sounds wayyyyyy better It makes a generic chord progression a bit more interesting

every binary digit in underclass is perfect, I love Deryck's vision and his persuit to make what he hears come to life. I love how much of a perfectionist he is: He bought a million guitars and spent who knows how many hours turning every combination of knobs till it was perfect, had stevo record drums even for small parts in different rooms with different mic placements etc, didn't let anyone push him off his path to create exaxtly what he wanted, and even chose the monsterous job of producing it too. long live uc and long live sum 41

I feel like I kinda agree with deryck and cone..if the bass is higher it kinda gets mixed in with the guitars and you can't tell there's any bass sometimes lol. it's not great when it's too repetitive, but cone just changed the octave so it's not really changing much. It'd be cool if they used both those parts. But seriously Idk why all the comments are about this and him being selfish..I'm sure it happens with every band. They just wanted what was best for the song, that's what creates a better song anyways. I thought this vid was interesting ✌

All these comments about Deryck being selfish etc. When he does 90% of the work, don't you think he is entitled to do this? Any one of you with any sense would do the exact same. Deryck is the major reason the band is famous. Let him do his thing.

Especially when you look at the album booklet the only song on the record that Deryck didn't write by himself was the title track. He wrote 99% of the record by himself and produced it. He's completely entitled

I don't think deryck was the pillar of sum 41's success. I mean, every musician in a group has a way to compose lyrics, riffs, solos and stuff and, beside that, every musician has a different point of view of the creation process. When all this things come together in a single work, we have masterpieces like all killer no filler and does this look infected, where you can see deryck's lyrics and Dave's heavy metal guitar playing in the same side. If you try to suppress someone's creative mind, you destroy the possibility of going beyond and you kill the band's creative process. That's what happened with sum 41, it became some kind of imitation of green day. Sad to see one of the most influent bands of my life going like this
