I've sent the clip to Neville Howe, still alive, from the Australian 8. He might know. To me, it doesn't look like the Australian 8.

At about 4:00 in the video, there is a crew of 8 that passes a powerboat in this film... anyone know if that 8 is the gold-medal-winning USA team, or one of the other countries?

May I add to the crew, cox - David Pitt (my father!)
Loved the scenes around Mildura in 1965, loved the old Riverboats, all those kids are probably Grandparents now? And you know what I loved best of all, no one is glued to a mobile phone! Happy Days!

Hi! Do you happen to have any other videos from this race? I am looking for videos with my father, he took part in this competition and won in men 4x (the Soviet Union team). Do you know where could I look for them?

Interestinng to see some of mildura 1 yr before i was born.... Not into the regatta boats but bringing back good memories of the old mildura bridge, rio vista and the pump and roller across the road that as kids we used to play on quite often before h&s made it disappear.... Anymore footage of this period would be great to see!

By any chance do you have footage of the lightweight men's 8 race? My dad was in the US boat for that race, and it'd be a killer surprise for him to see his big race. (And I'd love to see it too!)

+Ted Phillips Hi Ted, not sure. My father filmed this. I'll look out for it if there's an Aussie LW8 there, if so Dad would have filmed them. Busy now, but will follow up in due course!!!

Sally McKenzie Nicka, This is an absolutely wonderful and sentimental trip down memory lane. Fascinating to watch the MUBC boys pack their boat in a crate and ship it off to Japan, then unpack it and row off in their terry towelling hats. Who amongst us has not worn a terry towelling hat?? I know I have! Well done! October 24 at 8:02am · Unlike · 1 Angela Turrell Nice you got our Flav in the film!!!! October 30 at 8:30am · Like

It is a wonderful movie covering activities of and exchange between the Melbourne University Boat Club and the Keio University Boat Club in 1956, 1969 and 2014. Certainly this is a great gift to our Melbourne-kai members who will be thrilled to watch it. Thank you very much. And you have completed it only in 10 days after the morning row which was on October 13th. I must say speed of your production is amazing! I must let all the members know immediately. I will come back to you after finding what they have to say. Tohru

interesting style! They're all taking a lot on the arms, but it's consistent across the boat, so clearly what they were aiming for.

i love these old movies/videos. the wooden boats and oars are beautiful, its sad in a way that wood has been replaced by high tech materials. the piantedosi oars i had in the 80's were works of art. the same can't be said for anything made of carbon fiber in my opinion. .there's just no life, character, or individuality in manufactured materials.
@rjb463611 жыл бұрын
check out how the oars flex! great photography, especially considering the camera equipment available back then.

wooden boats and oars seem to have life. a characteristic modern high tech boats will never have in spite of their light weight and other advantages
