Lighthouse is one of the three best rock albums of 2024. Like D Gilmour / Luck And Strange and VA / Petty Country.

Had no idea that Horslips covered this Steppenwolf “hidden gem.” Admittedly without doing any research, I don’t think Horslips ever recorded this for an album. Anyone know otherwise?

MY BAND ALWAYS DID THIS ONE WE WERE CLOSER TO STEPPENWOLFS VERSION ....JOHN KAY WAS MY MENTOR

Bruce’s rant here was a foreshadowing of what the music industry became a couple decades later, when bands started shelling out clothing lines and other shit products to stay trendy with the teenybopper crowd.

I think they did a twist on the song out of respect I like both versions. What band is this?

An 1970s irish band called Horslips. Check them out. They were the original Celtic Rock band.

It was a sad way to go. It is great that he can talk so openly about it, but at the same time, it must have affected him. He was a mighty man, to get up on stage, and talk about it.

Sadly enough, they weren't "in the wrong place at the wrong time" as fergyguitar said. It was a carefully planned assassination. Most likely their movements had already been monitored at their concert in Banbridge. Maybe even the name of the place (Buskhill = bus kill) was chosen on purpose. Great they are still remembered, great that Stephen, Des and Ray are still playing with the Miami. I read Stephen's book, it was really impressive.

It's very easy to be scathingly critical of something that was recorded live 40 years ago under probably chaotic conditions

great song, not so great cover... the hammering beat does NOT suit the mood of this song... neither does Ringo-sound-alike on vocals. wait.. ringo can sing in key

I heard them blowing the roofs off a small college canteen, a parish hall and a pub several times in 1972
