I agree with you completely, dude. I'm glad you brought her up as an example though because as happy as I am for her that she was able to do the things she has, she doesn't get it and though I know that she's still learning and all, I don't really think she's going to because she's got all the money and the status ect ect. So she's never gonna know what it's like to have to struggle to get the money for the surgeries and everything else we gotta try and scramble for. I'm not dissing her, I'm not hating on her, or anything of the sort. Not at all. It's amazing too how people in our own community expect us all to be mind readers and automatically know things when we're starting our own journeys and haven't been "in the game" so to speak for as long as they have.

I think it's so important what you said about people don't need to understand it, they just need to respect it. I consider myself open-minded, I have trans-friends, and even I don't feel like I fully understand transgender completely. But I have long felt exactly that, I don't need to understand it all to accept and respect people.

I'm wondering if he asked because if they have to do a physical pat down, they will have a woman work with women and a man work with men. So really, they should not be making any assumptions and should ask if you want to be patted down by a woman or a man. I think it's something you should write a letter about to the TSA. And if you are involved in Trans-Advocacy groups/forums, could ask other people to also write to the TSA and share their experience and ask for a change in TSA procedures. Sorry you had to go through this. Travel is hard enough and dealing with the TSA is often unpleasant, but this adds yet another level of difficulty. Stay strong!
