It's lovely over there and I do feel at home there (as can be seen by the repeated visits!). There are plans to pepper the area with solar farms, wind turbines and pylons (plans that are being resisted by the locals), so we must make the most of what we've got there before it's gone. In addition, with possible relaxed green belt planning regs and good internet connectivity now, I can see a large increase in the population of mid Wales soon as many make the move over from the English Midlands. If I was a younger and had less responsibilities, I think I'd head to Shetland Isles, Faroe Isles, Iceland or similar. Cheers.

I chat to myself all the time anyway, so I might as well record some of it and upload it to YT! Videos like these hardly get any views, but they're like a video diary and if I don't record a trip, I've a tendency to forget it ever happened, so worth doing! Should be heading over to the Brecon Beacons in September, so some radio action back again soon! Cheers.

@skyhill4279 Ай бұрын
Hi Gary, Another fine video from you sir. What size is that gazebo you use? Do you have any problems going on to campsites with a vehicle that is not a proper camper or motorhome? I've seen some videos saying that some campsites don't allow self-build vans or vans like yours or estate cars used to sleep in. I believe some sites don't allow awnings or gazebos, have you came across any of these sites.? Cheers, Sky.
@104s_Unplugged
@104s_Unplugged Ай бұрын
Hi Sky - gazebo is 2.5m x 2.5m. Indeed some sites to prohibit car camping and vans (especially sign written ones), but I always check out the terms and conditions of a site before going. Some don't allow gazebos or charge extra for them. Generally I avoid sites like these, but the Durdle Door site is quite strict, so that was the reason I booked the pod when I was there last Winter. Just in case though I do have a small tent that I could set up next to the car - I could sleep in that, or pretend that I am, and stealth it in the motor ;)

Great run down of your set up, good to see the solar is out doing its thing. Interesting the Allpowers unit didn't work out. You mentioned the Hopwinn is 200 odd watts, do you know what size Ah the battery is? Even though i've made my own, I do quite fancy the Ecoflow Delta 2...
@104s_Unplugged
@104s_Unplugged Ай бұрын
Perhaps I got a Friday night one, but the Allpowers has been disappointing - not saying all reviews are biased, but perhaps a lesson in not listening too much to YT reviews from folk who've been given stuff for free. The Hopwinn has a 288wh battery - it's Ok, but it's a LiPo (Lithium Polymer) not a LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) so, in theory, not as safe and won't last as long. I too fancy the Ecoflow Delta 2 and a 200w solar panel - with something like that, I could power things like a electric blanket etc. all night.

Whether I go away for a couple of days or a couple of weeks, it's all in there - just add food and water. Last winter I did use the site electric hookup and it was great to have a heated throw and electric heater - I was hoping the power station I bought would run the throw on a low setting, but it was useless - I think for this winter, I might go for a decent power station like a EcoFlow Delta 2 instead of buying cheap stuff (having said that, that little power gen and solar panel worked great this time). I like Burgundy red wines and Cask Ales.I drink them because I like the taste. NOT to get drunk. During the week I usually have alcohol free beers (often brewdog). for me its a case of why are you having a drink? If it's because you NEED a drink , then no. If its because I fancy a drink but it can wait? then yes. I make sure it's not every time I have a drink(the local Spoons knows me more for drinking gallons of coffee rather then beer! lol).

Much the same - I do enjoy wine with food and it's been a very long time since I've been drunk. Having said that, I have and still do self-medicate to a certain extent with alcohol to combat stress and anxiety from which I've had plenty of over the years - had I gone to the docs years back, I may well have been prescribed things like Diazepam and/or Lithium so, on balance, I think some alcohol is possibly the lesser evil. Some sites are strict indeed - with gazebos, I can only guess they're scared that they'll blow away and cause damage. I see other sites charge extra for putting up one, so I don't go to those sites! The Sprinter is setup as a "WAV" but I bought a couple of Disc-O-Beds and have the capability for a hookup. I have a couple of single burner gas camping stoves similar to you and electric kettle, toaster, stove top kettle, lights etc. I was thinking of buying a 2 hotplate electric hob to give me the option. Hi Sky - I'm moving a few videos over from my other channel, so this one dates back a few years! We'd had a rough few years back then, so quite a bit of drinking and I've lost a few pounds since then!. Sounds a nice roadtrip down through the Netherlands and, as for the hob, I'd go for a dual induction hob with a decent set of induction-compatible pots and pans. Loads on eBay from about £60, but when using, watch the rating of the campsite electric hookup - some are only 5A/6A and a double electic hob can pull 13A on max. All the best.

Just got back this morning from a sunrise walk up Pen y Fan. It must be a year + since I was up there last. The Storey Arms car park has completely changed! I started off just after 3am, 15-20mins later I noticed the first head torch coming out of the carpark below me - no way I was letting them catch me despite my huffing and puffing. There was one chap camping up top, but around 50 people joined me whilst the sun was rising. Back home now after a 4hr drive back. Legs were shaking like a leaf on the way down....I'll be feeling it tomorrow. Sometimes ignorance is bliss, but if you do feel the need to delve deeper, look into Sodium Nitrate additive in cured meats. I would still demolish those hotdogs you cooked even with this knowledge. Well done with the weight loss, its hard to get it off. Stay safe up there 👍

Good work - it's a relentless slog up Pen Y Fan for sure! Must admit I've not been up there for years since I saw the cars parked all up the road outside during the pandemic. There is a nice route up around Waun Rydd - long but quiet! Food chain is terrible - anything from plastic pellets in fish to re-purposed industrial bi-products used in foods. Sometimes it's best not to know, but I have stopped buying smoked bacon, and the like, due to the toxins in the smoke they use - looked like a shortcut to getting the Big C! All the best.
