Marten like to stay in thicker timber/brush, it protects them from birds. I've caught them in the open like that, but not near as often as if they feel more secure. Wolves are a game of patience for sure, it's not uncommon to have sets out for 6 weeks or more

Your cubbies are good the one thing I suggest is not to make so much commotion around your sets. Next thing I suggest is that you only set I trap per trail spread them out and put your sets closer to your snowmobile trails the lynx will follow them then they have a tendency to walk on your foot trail to your set also suggest on your lynx cubbies to shuffle your feet in they will but don’t like walking in foot tracks. I’m not telling you what to do just suggesting the more sent you bring around people the less activity you will have. And use lures for the animals you are catching not the same for all. Hope this helps and I’m on KZbin furs from the line 123 videos good luck to you hope your fur bag is full.

Your cubbies look good, you should get some cats if they're moving through. For wolves, start piling all your carcasses and scraps in one place, and wait for them to find it, once they establish trails to and from, start making blind sets. Beaver through that much ice can be tough to find runs and feed piles, but a baited snare set might grab them for you

I very happy to see you interested in getting outside and trapping instead of sitting on your butt in front of a screen. I do have one issue though. 9 days between checks is absolutely ridiculous especially for foot hold traps. I can see every 2 days or 3. Maybe 4 days on killer traps( snares or connibears). Also remember, a full trap can't catch anything else.
@mountainedge4418 Жыл бұрын
your right but I just can't drive out there every 3 days were I trap is pretty far and if I had a truck I would listen to you
@luckytrapper7656 Жыл бұрын
@@mountainedge4418 then don't use foot hold traps. The animals we trap deserve more respect than sitting in a trap alive for 9 days. Use snares or connibears, a killing trap. A big part of being a responsible trapper is respecting the outdoors and the animals we harvest.
@mountainedge4418 Жыл бұрын
@@luckytrapper7656 true ill do that

The slots might work better if narrow. You measured how wide they should be based on the width of the springs, but when you set the trap the springs slide in side by side. Hard to explain, but set the trap and then put it up to the opening of the box and it will make sense. You may also want to make your slots deeper. However, they look good.
@mountainedge4418 Жыл бұрын
I did think about that but I was to late
@deadpinecollective Жыл бұрын
@@mountainedge4418 when you set the trap you will just have to crank the springs up towards the top of the box. It should still work. Best way to figure this stuff out is trial and error. Great stuff

I trap in Northern BC Canada and going after the same critters, wolves, lynx, marten etc. lots of different style sets. Your cubbies look great. Just a matter of time, but definitely set anywhere you see sign, and bait piles if you are going after wolves. Good luck

@deadpinecollective Жыл бұрын
Are you seeing any sign around your traps. Marten generally don’t like open areas, so if you have thicker tree coverage you may try marten boxes there. They need the safety from birds of prey. Keep it up. All of a sudden the critters will be there.
