People really be making a fuss over that infant “hill” near the end?
@johnthebiker3004 ай бұрын
Do you really make up a lot of time by pushing on the downhills v saving yourself a bit. Have you tried riding the full course on FulGaz. Be interesting to see how that compares.

I don’t use a stride power meter but can you expect the same power downhill as well as up?

Awesome video and nice to find someone who shares the same opinion. I have a fluid "dumb" trainer as well, but it is direct drive and quiet. No sense in overspending when I already have a power meter, heart rate monitor, and can control the resistance using my gears.

That’s actually last year’s course. The detour shown going around on wacker instead of down Franklin is correct for this year.

Also, this year's course makes a left on 26th street immediately after Chinatown and then you go south on Michigan Ave before looping back north, so you're east of I-90 instead of west it

Best thing to do is just get 3-4 brand new chains, mineral spirits and denatured alcohol them all, and wax them. Every 200-300 miles, take off current waxed chain, throw a new one on. Saves your drive train some serious wear and tear. Rewaxing once you've cycled through them all is super easy. Throw them in some boiling water, dry them, wax. Just started waxing my mtb chains and loving how clean the chain is after rides. Makes maintenance very easy.

I worked with Nick Graf before he transferred into I believe your area. I hope to see you out on a course, but first I gotta lay off the donuts and get back out there. Thanks for posting these vids.

Great review and Great detail! This is for me a great overview of what to expect on the 140.6 edition on 2022. It looks like an extreme Iron distance event… . Was anyone wearing a neoprene cap or similar( during swimming portion) .?
@MichaelMansfieldTri3 жыл бұрын
It is a very honest course - not the fastest overall, but the most enjoyable I have done (just did the 70.3 WC a week ago and it was awesome too)! I don't recall seeing anyone with neoprene cap, but I did double cap. hope you enjoy the world champ race next year!

Michael, I struggled with much of the same and it was a challenge to find a balance between my tri stuff and gym stuff. After spending $$$, I learned less is more. I’ve got a modest set-up but any weight training is limited to TRX and kettlebells. This has been crucial in injury avoidance! Nowadays, my rogue weights and benches are more for staging my water bottles😂. One thing I strongly recommend is an IR sauna. After hours on the bike or treadmill/road, 30 minutes in the sauna is great for recovery.

I run on back country roads. Little traffic but higher speeds. I always run with traffic ONLY because I use my ears to listen for cars coming behind. If you know what you are listening for a car slowing down is easy to distinguish. The car notices you and is slowing down. If I don’t hear the slowing down then I look behind to quickly decide if I need to jump off the road lol. Has never happened to me but I’m thinking about it always. So cars that are passing you in the opposite lane don’t always slow down. THOSE are the cars I want to see…… DONT WEAR HEADPHONES WHILE RUNNING WITH CARS!!!…..WEAR BRIGHT COLORS!!! BE SAFE!!!

Kudos for trying something different, great effort. From someone that has zero experience in crits, but sees a lot of this kinds of videos, I think you burned a few matches very early in the race, going off the front alone, and trying to hang on to the front group. Also, as a begginer un crits you should probably start in cat 5, learn the technique and strategy of crits, and only the move to cat 4, even if you have the fitness right now. Anyway, congrats for the race, and bring more of these videos to the channel
@MichaelMansfieldTri3 жыл бұрын
thanks - jumped right into cat 4 because it gives more options and longer duration than cat 5 for me locally. definitely burned some matches hahah! got to get more efficient in the future races.
