Michigan is the true National Champion of 1997. Nebraska “won” the runner up trophy that year, plus they lost to Missouri.

The plane crash that took Brooke from this world was just west and a little north of Lincoln. I worked on West O Street at the time and news of the crash came over the radio very quickly. We could see the smoke from work. News of the victims' identities came a little later. I was roughly his age. That was my first taste of mortality for the young that really hit home. RIP Brooke Berringer and Tobey Lake. Let us not forget the "nobodies" that die with our "somebodies".

We will not always win. We will not always go to bowl games. We will not always have winning seasons. We will not always win championships. But we will always try to the end. And we will always be NEBRASKA.

I was in FFA in high school. Terry Connealy was as well at Hyannis. I remember being at an FFA contest "with" him. He was a senior and he was a man. I was a junior and I was a boy, lol. A 6'3" 235 boy but a boy nonetheless.

@DrFunk-rk6yl lol considering the fact that I see comments saying teams today wouldn't beat 1995 Nebraska team. Considering that offensive team was ridiculous, and strong defense. If argument is talent is different, no it's not. Gonna need more lol

1:53 What makes the 99 yard pass even more impressive was Tommy Armstrong's ability to avoid a safety and get his elbow down first at the 1/2 yard mark.

Surely they will have the Golden Goose play in this segment. Anybody remember that one? It was so unexpected! HISTORIC!! Edit: yes they did show this play... But this narrator calls it a "fumblerooski" No the ball was literally placed on the ground by the quarterback and then picked up by the running back. All pre-planned. Osborne named at the Golden Goose play. 10:38

Crazy facts about that 1996 Fiesta Bowl: Huskers easily left over 20 points on the board and Florida's 2nd TD was way out of bounds. Final score could've been as bad as 82-18.

This team should be watched by any team that has to play against an option team. First, you arent going to stop it on every play. Second, defensing the option requires one to play a defense of postion, you cannot over pursue. Lastly, when making a stop, you have to wrap. You cannot hit. Florida in the 96 Fiesta Bowl had good athletes. But, they were lacking in fundamentals and they paid the price against the option. Watching the 96 Fiesta Bowl will show everything not to do against an option team as a defense

Nebraska probably had 5 of the 7 best RBs in the Big 8 that year. Ahman and LP were easily the 2 best. Troy Davis put up 2000 yards but had 2.5x the amount of carries that Ahman did. If LP could have kept his head straight, it would have been a runaway Heisman win. Childs, Benning, and Sims would have started anywhere else other than ISU or OSU and had conference honors.

Hell yeah they are … never trailed, didn’t give up a sack, averaged almost 400 yards on the ground !!!! Only team ever to beat 4 final top ten teams …. Frazier was the best … he said he went to Nebraska to win a national championship…. F’n did it twice !!! Should have been 3 but there was that phantom clip vs FSU when he was a sophomore

I will disagree with the number one. No way is that better then Johnny R’s punt return vs Oklahoma or his punt returns - lol. The Frazier run was very good and exciting but so many of those tackles were bad angles or arm efforts. Not even close to the excitement or impact of The Rocket!

Yeah I'm almost positive coach Osborne didn't say take it to the house. I'm sure he said make a touchdown. Yeah I'm old school it's always been touchdown and always will be touchdown. So this day and age can everyone just go back to calling it a touchdown, because that's what it is called a touchdown
