What I always find so interesting is how so many people always say that the French are so snooty if you can’t speak their language. They really should be grateful that people care to learn their language to be honest. Americans never do that (maybe unless you’re from New York 😂) even to people who speak the most broken English. I always find myself trying to help a new English speaker especially when they tell me. The French really need to get it together. Not flattering or motivating at all.

I read that book years ago when it was new or newish. I've studied languages on and off as a hobby for a long time. I always like hearing about anyone's language learning journey and the book was really well written. It's easy to get caught up in the momentum of the book I think but I tried his app and the pictures only approach doesn't always work. I used the app when it was new and they did not let you put English on the card at all. Not even for when you forgot what the picture was because you hadn't seen the flash card is a while. I sent feedback and asked what to do in that situation and at that time they told me the method was no English, pictures only. I quit. I'm curious to see how the app developed over the years and that's how I found your video.

I totally resonate with your comment regarding the intro paragraph that was written in your own "voice". I've experienced a similar situation when writing a paper for an organizational behavior course during an MBA program a couple years ago. I think that is because despite it being just a spontaneous thought in a moment of deep concentration and reflection, that thought is the expression of all your life's experiences that shaped you. That thought is the essence of you, a unique angle. And that's exactly why these thoughts are so valuable: because you're bringing a unique idea that you created, rather than repeating what others have already thought and shared with the world already!

Thanks for your insight! I agree with your point. It's more than just a spontaneous, errant thought - it is some kind of crystallization of one's own ideas and experiences. Nicely said. :)

@Allysia Marie I have likely watched 100's of videos on journals, how to set them up, etc. It was my quarantine hobby. 😁 I spent way too much money on a myriad of types of planners/journals...then came the journal covers (got to have a really impressive one for the journal to even work apparently)....all the specs on the pens used which branched off into brands, nub size...then the paper that is used to manufacture the journal...ARRRGGGHHHHH! Certainly not all but I think some "How To" vids are more a form of "show and tell" rather than containing concrete info. Your video is one of the rarer ones that presents concepts rather than sparkle. Really enjoyed this video. Thank you!

Why? - Because you are a rebel at heart - ('they',.. don't want you to choose it) philosophy, in of itself, is crippled by the fact that there is actually no answer, to the question of life. (i.e. - life is a problem to be solved, is an incorrect view) But it still retains that tantalizing, close relationship to pure math's and physics, that is undeniable. Enjoy.

You are lucky to study this at a uni level, most people simply cant afford to do this due to only being able to spend money on uni courses to get work. By the way who are your favourite philosophers? I love learning about Hegel but he is so dense to read, hopefully one day I will crack the phenomenology of spirit

I am lucky! It's tough to study in conjunction with working though. I'm too new to the field to have real favourites, but so far I have really been into Sartre and Ricoeur. Super excited to get into Kant. Hegel seems impenetrable! 😂

Just recently back from a trip to my house and property (I am away from home a lot) to find more of the trees I had planted when I was your age (16 years ago) had died, either from too much water, too little water, cattle damage or disease. This happens every time I go back home. It can be a bit disheartening but there is still plenty there doing well, some incredibly well, to the point of amazement, which counters any loss. My apple tree is still going strong but no fruit yet, citrus is always a good yield. Apologies for such a literal spiel, but there is a moral to it, plant ten times more than you need and adapt your expectations to what actually survives to maturity. (Also, help from other people is great but cannot be expected or relied upon.)

We recently celebrated Arbor Day at the college where I teach. (I have no idea how Arbor day dates are determined). I almost always stop and put my hand on one of the trees on the walk from the parking lot to my office. It's also nice to smell the wood. It's likely that most students or faculty members who happen to see me doing this think I'm a weirdo. But I don't care. It feels like a grounding procedure to let a couple of my senses experience something that exists outside of the Internet.

Howdy Allysia, Believe me, your desires will be ever shifting, I'm probably twice your age and everything is now very compact and grounded! In your twenties you want to explore and experience life on a wing and a prayer, in your thirties roots start to form and the future comes to mind quite frequently, in your forties mortality becomes an actual thought and worry, in your fifties and sixties, stability is one of the most important issues, friends, family, partners, are of the upmost importance and reflection becomes a wondrous thing. I love to compose and that is my yoga! I feel whole every time I finish a composition and record it. Your apple tree analogy is very thought provoking and beautiful! Take care, ciao.

Im actually im my 20, thats is so interesting, even thought im so young, i can recall on your thinkings. I live in Brazil, slighly big city, 3year on college and just got my first job... Its like you say some relations just "fade away" ppl pass by, some will stay some will go, i belive every relationship is a 2 way route, both ppl need to keep caring or they eventually will go. I had a lot o friends on high school, lost contact with a bunch of friends, i have connect to ppl that i barelly spoke to and also i have made new friends. Im going in a date with a girl that i really enjoy, but i know she doesnt wanna anything serious for now. You know this, everything, the video reflexion and this text made me realize the experience we are passing through is the most valuable thing, its such unique. In our roots we leave marks and sometimes they have more meaningfull than any deep... idk im just reflexive. Ok time to go sleep. Hey im really glad i clicked on this video.

Hi Ally! Its very nice to see you studying history and philosophy! They’re my favourite subjects beside music ….. I’m just looking for a little guidance on deciding to get either the ARCT performance or the teacher (its my 2023 new year resolution) ….. Question: Do you need to register students for exams AS PART OF THE REQUIREMENT to get a “teacher’s certificate”? (That’s why I’m getting by reading their website, but I’m a little unsure,… I don’t know if I’m understanding it right)
@AllysiaMarie

I actually have no idea how they do it now! They've made a lot of changes to the teaching pedagogy requirements since I took the elementary pedagogy exams. I've actually been meaning to get the intermediate/advanced pedagogy certification as well, but I keep filling my plate with other things (like university). If I remember correctly, from a long time ago, there is a necessity of teaching for a certain amount of time to get the certificate, but I'm not sure about exam registration.

Hi Allysia, long time no see! I've missed watching your videos! Yeah, the password for 2022 was "Crap!" for me, what a horrid year, just like 2020 & 2021, we just can't seem to get out of this Covid rut! My wife got diagnosed with Breast Cancer and we went through all that last year, she got a mastectomy but she's back to 100% now! I voted for your album, I really loved it! My word for 2023 is "Hope" but as you well know "Hope" is a very dangerous thing! I really feel bad for the young people of today, they will definitely inherit a world in worse shape than we will leave it but "Hope" is all we got! Take Care.
